Maybe everybody should just calm down
Why am I hearing "World War III" every time I turn around? Jesus, you'd think this was the first time in modern history that Israel had a fight with its neighbors. In the 1980s Israel launched a full scale invasion and occupation of Lebanon, and nobody started shrieking that WWIII had started. About every ten years Israel gets drunk and starts slapping Arab countries around. This is a normal part of the schedule.

I know the Bush administration has made a right mess out of the power structures in the Middle East, but it's not like the rest of the world's countries are aligning on opposite sides and rattling sabres. How is this supposed to be WWIII? Who are we going to be fighting against? Is the assumption here that we're going to go to war against the Muslim world? That doesn't seem any more likely today than it did ten years ago. Aren't we still allies with some of the Muslims in Iraq and Afghanistan? Isn't our president still playing kissy-face with the Saudis?

Are we just bored? Not enough drama unless we build it up a little? Dance it up with a little Apocolyptic glitz?

Or is it the Right freaking out because God's Chosen Fratboy has obviously lost control of everything? Is this the sound of Right-Wingers facing reality? And then fleeing with wild shrieks and waving arms?

1. Some people don't have a reason to get up in the morning without
this sort of thing.

2. You think that everybody is going to calm down
with idiotic statements like:

"About every ten years Israel gets drunk and starts slapping Arab countries around."

being made.

4. Thank you.
That post sounded like it was equating all this death and destruction to a frat boy prank.

3. "Can't we all... just... get along?" -- Rodney King quote
...and later Rodney King said, "Nothing has changed in our country, so I am still feeling that same pain and anger."

6. I'll "calm down" when this fascist US regime is out of power. And
maybe, the rest of the World will as well.

7. Are you talking about here? Or corpmedia?
I honestly haven't seen a lot of WWIII threads around, and I've been around a lot lately. Most of what I've seen that even mentions WWIII has to do with Faux rhetoric.

8. Did you know the world politcal&war situation is different than 1980?
I knew plenty of people who were worried in 1980. Now there is that pesky Iraq occupation and all the lack of status in the world that the USA has lost to go along with it. Not to mention those madmen controlling the government. But, if you want to think it is just another little thing between Israel and someothercountry, go ahead.

What Right-wingers are you talking about in your last paragraph, by the way? You do realize that this is DU, right? Not a rightwing forum? I am confused by what you are saying here.

throwing WWIII around...he had a hard on every time he said it....

The Middle East is in turmoil...we can only hope that something peaceful will eventually come...
