Winning in 06': Focus on stem cells, energy policy, and health care.
I've been thinking for awhile what 3 issues Democrats can use to most efficiently win in 06'. Here are my thoughts on general ads the Demcratic Party should be running, and all Democratic candidates should be supporting:

Hammer away at Bush's veto of stem cell research, but especially Republicans who voted against this life-saving research. Use really, really emotional ads for this with well-known celebrities as well as everyday people affected by the veto.

Link energy policy to national security and global warming. With the current conflicts and hottest summer on record, this is the perfect opportunity to do this.

Universal Health care is an idea whose time has come. Hammer away at how Republicans have screwed up national health care policy, but especially how Democrats would enact better policy.

If the National Democratic Party stresses these 3 issues over and over and over in every state, I believe we will win.

2. Conservatism is an abysmal failure
The Republicans are in control of all three branches of govt., yet they stubbornly press an agenda based upon marginal issues like abortion, gay marriage and flag burning, while ignoring if not imposing barriers around issues that matter to all people, like stem cell research, energy and the environment/global warming. Conservatism and Republican Conservatives have failed the people of America. Voters must show them all the door this November.

4. I think the focus should be on domestic issues this time.
We go after the entire neo-con policy agenda in 08' when we run for the White House.

5. Democrats need to be very direct about Iraq and oil
Bush invaded Iraq not to secure oil to run our economy, but so his friends could profit from pumping it and could set the price by how much they pumped. The Iraqis know this and that's why they are fighting us. Our troops should be used for a smash and grab robbery to enrich the largest corporations in the world.

6. here's what I'm thinking
Preface by saying..I'm Canadian, and don't claim to be an expert on US politics...

so..here's what seems so obvious, it's blatant maybe to the point that it can be
missed: The repubs are trying to define the issues (eg: Cheney statements recently)
as being "security" etc...you know the whole "be very afraid thing"...Now today
on CNN, Jack Cafferty gives out poll numbers, shocking poll numbers, about the public
perception of the current Mid-East situation, and if memory serves me correctly over
60% believe that there will be a WWIII over this as well believe a nuclear bomb
will go off in the middle east.....Soooooooooo....given the "mood" out there,
Dem's should be very careful that the issue isn't being framed ALREADY as
security, war, fear, more fear...choose us the repubs again because blah
blah issue. So how would the Dem's work within that IF that were the focus/framework
for November. Perhaps have some back up slogans ready to cover this just in case.
Plan A campaign, Plan B campaign. Or how those with the brain-power can get the Dem's to
frame the issue...but without the media, it could be tough.

So just sort of looking at this from the outside, your neighbor so to speak, I'm thinking
Dem's may not GET the chance to frame the issue if this IS the issue by default.
So although the economy, health-care, middle class suffering, jobs, etc....really need
to be the focus for the "good of the people", War may be the issue. Crap I hope not, I hope
whatever is to happen is over by November. I, *ahem* as your neighbor, would delight
in the Dem's having Subpoena Power, and head up committees.

But having said all that, I guess whatever races you can win, you'll have your experts
diligently working on those.
