I'm a proud member of the Democrat Party
Yes, the Democrat Party.

Remember when Hillary Clinton went on TV early in 1998 to lambaste the "vast right wing conspiracy" that was trying to bring down her and her husband? Republicans and conservatives embraced the label, proudly proclaiming themselves as members of the "vast right wing conspiracy" on websites and on talk shows. They retook possession of those words, such that it's not really that much of an insult for someone on our side to use those words on someone from their side.

We should do the same with the label of "Democrat Party" that the right so often likes to use as a childish insult. We should retake possession of that characterization, and proudly embrace the label.

Might I remind you that the Democratic mascot, the jackass, was adopted in this way. Andrew Jackson's opponents called him "Andrew Jackass". Jackson embraced the label.

1. I'll just keep it as, "I'm a Democrat and proud of it"
and leave it at that. But I understand what you're getting at.

2. I get what you're saying... BUT
I hate the bastardization of the language.

The "vast right-wing conspiracy" is literally correct. The "Democrat" Party just sounds stupid - like they are.

I think we should just tell them they sound like idiots who don't understand English, myself.

3. Sorry... for the rest of my life I will belong to the Party of...
...compassion, intelligence, and progress. And, incidentally, grammar, spelling, and usage.

regretfully,
Bright

4. So if Democrats started calling Republicans..
Edited on Wed Jul-26-06 12:34 AM by SeveneightyWhoa
.."Republicraps", do you suppose the Republicans would adopt that name and run with it?

Doubt it. Accepting and adopting their bastardization of the Democratic Party's name does the Party no favors, and would only give the Repubs another easy victory.

5. Why don't we take back the word "liberal" first?
Most people know what a Democrat is. But most people think "liberals" are demonic.
