Got to speak to Howard Dean + Paul Hackett. Gave Gov Dean an election |
|
Edited on Wed Jan-18-06 12:00 PM by mod mom
investigation packet! Woo Hooo!
Gov Dean just finished his press conference at the Ohio Statehouse on ethics reform. I got there a little late and entered a side door where State elected officials were watching. I was about 6 feet from the podium with a clear view. I had put together a packet on Lucas County Ohio (where I investigated re: '04 election). This packet included :
*jsamuels' election night screen saver showing Lucas County with Kerry 0 votes and Cobb with 4,000+ votes; *copies of precinct level "Ballot Accounting Charts" which had cross outs and number changes, incomplete # of required judge signatures; * internal BOE summary of oversight report stating "these people should be fired": * Richard Hayes Phillips report on voter turnout in Lucas County, *Time for Change's (I believe) analysis of voting purges in Dem vs Rep counties in Ohio; * highlights from Blackwell's Investigation of Lucas County *Article w link to Lucas County Dem HQ break-in in Oct 2004 *Information on Bernadette Noe's (his speech today discussed Tom Noe) role as chair of Lucas County BOE *Tom Noe's involvement with a Blackwell lawsuit prior to the election. *Green Party observor report on the Lucas County recount.
and of course, my contact information stating if he is interested in getting more information to contact me.
Well, I was standing next to State Sen Teresa Fedor, who is from Lucas County and is an election reform advocate. I introduced myself as a CASEOhio activist and I gave her the packet thinking I probably wouldn't be able to get it to Gov Dean. I have previously attempted to contact her office with the info but no luck. She looked over my packet and was astounded. She wrote a long note on my cover page. She also asked if I would drop one off to her office.
Paul Hackett got there late during the speech (bad weather). Toward the end of the speech, he appeared behind Gov Dean. After the speech while people were talking to Gov Dean, there was Paul Hackett right in front of me. I thanked him and said "Sen Hackett, may I shake your hand (the very hand typing away right now!) Howard Dean was still talking so I walked out into the vestibule when low and behold he appeared. I not only shook his hand but I spoke to him about the need to get theGAO Report into the public realm, and how I had investigated Lucas County. I told him this county was connected to the Noe scandal. I told him I had left a packet with Sen Fedor. He said he was very interested and would review it. I told him I was an election reform lobbyist (his speech spoke of lobby reform) with CASE, but the good kind-no one gives us any money.
Anyway, as a political junkie- it was a HUGH day for me!!!

4. WOW! That's just fantastic! |

It sounds like it was 'meant to be' that your packet made it into Dean's and Fedor's hands! Lucky you, actually getting to meet Paul Hackett. I think he's gonna get elected, and by a wide margin. I really think the right is running scared on him, and trying to paint him with a negative brush (i.e. his comments about right-wing fundies being like terrorist fundies), but I don't think its going to work!
Congratulations! :toast: :yourock: :headbang: :woohoo: :applause:

Nice to know that Dean is still hearing about the election issues.
This is his number one concern as we head into 2006. It is the BEST reason to have him in charge of the DNC, as he appears to be the only member of the Party that seems to take e-voting skeptics seriously.

15. Dean is mystifying on election issues |
|
on one hand he must know about the problems because he hosted a TV show with Bev Harris about it.
on the other hand, as DNC chair, he seems to be ignoring the problem as if it doesn't exist.

17. They have to act on it before the midterms and the GAO report gives |
|
them the opening. I only hope that they wanted to discredit the administration with other issues and will come out swinging. He seemed honestly interested. They can tie in the Noe Scandal (their main focus was culture of corruption + ethics reform) with the CORRUPTION of the election system.
A girl can dream, anyway, right?
Anyway, I will guarantee there will be "activists" who will RAISE THIS ISSUE IN OHIO before the midterm.

Judiciary Dem Legal Staff. They believe the evidence (accumulated by self funded grassroots activists) is there to prove Ohio went for Kerry. I started investigating because of the civil rights abuses I witnessed, but it is through work with the legal staff that convinced me to never give up until this issue is addressed.

23. It's an assumption, but with Conyers, The House Judicairy Legal staff, |
|
the GAO Report, his experience with BBV and this recent well attended Dem Progressive Caucus meeting with Bob Fitrakis:
Friday, December 9, 2005
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Press Contact
Bob Fitrakis Testifies in Washington Clean Elections Advocate Briefs U.S. Lawmakers on Problems and Remedies
Columbus, OH — This week, Ohio gubernatorial candidate Bob Fitrakis accepted an invitation from the Congressional Progressive Caucus to come to Washington, D.C. to brief federal lawmakers on the electoral injustices that took place in Ohio during the 2004 campaign season. He and fellow electoral reform expert Harvey Wasserman addressed both the many ways Ohio's votes were compromised and the ways that these problems could be fixed through legislative remedies.
Fitrakis also met separately with three Members of Congress in preparation for a documentary that he is producing on electoral reform issues. ***** I believe it to be a good assumption. Why? It's only a guess, but I believe they want to further discredit the administration and show how corrupt they are because it makes it easier for the American people to believe.

Look, no one was more heart broken about Kerry's lack of attention then us who witnessed the Ohio election. We didn't give up but instead still keep pressing the issue. The GAO Report gives the Dems ammunition, but if the Dems won't SCREAM it then independent candidates will.

Just because he isn't saying anything about it doesn't mean he isn't following the issue. Dean has been more vocal than anyone when it comes to BBV, but he has a reputation to protect these days.
To say that he isn't paying attention just because he isn't blabbing to the media about it is the height of naiveté.
Dean's number one mission is to get us paid statewide organizations and win us governorships...I wonder why? Could it be because that is the only way to ensure a fair fight?
But yeah, he's totally ignoring election fraud. :eyes:

Its a shame its taken so long to get the attention of Dem politicians on voting and election fraud. Sen. Fedor should know better. Its not as though the information you gave her is difficult to find.

42. I'm not sure what chart you're referring to |
|
I sent you a Word document recently, summarizing much of the evidence for targeted purging of Ohio voters in 2004.
And I've posted several threads on DU on voter purging, where I explain how I determined that official figures indicate much lower registration numbers in Democratic areas than there should be.
But I'm not sure what chart you're referring to.
