Anybody else seen the movie "Mars Attacks" -- at the time the big scene where they talk to all the Congress Critters ("We come in peace -- ZAP!") and other Washington Notables was kind of horrifyingly disgusting in a black humorous way, if you know what I mean. (I thought it was a lousy movie myself.)
Anyway, now I am starting to think it wouldn't be that bad of an idea. That scares me. I thought part of the concept of being in a representative democracy was that we elected good people who were looking out for the best interests of our country. With very few exceptions, I do not believe that to be true these days.
I think our congress critters look out for their own best interests, and as rich, wealthy people who receive many perks and benefits from their exalted status, I think many of them are out of touch with that crazy little thing called "reality."
Seriously, look at the headlines over in Latest Breaking News at the moment:

I'm starting to think not. The one thing that curbed the actions of our "rich and powerful" was the fact that the majority of the country WASN'T, and they could be ousted in favor of someone who pledged to do a better job; with the current system of "magical invisible electronic voting" that isn't something the incumbents (98% job retention rate!) have to worry about.
Its a depressing thought: we're screwed.
Sigh. It was still a lousy movie, though.
