Anti-illegal immigration billboards feature upside down U.S. flag
ASHEVILLE, N.C. | A Mexican flag flying above an upside-down American flag and the words "Had Enough?" are featured on two billboards some Buncombe County Republicans have posted to call attention to illegal immigration.

Supporters said the billboards aren't about targeting certain races or the area's legal immigrants.

3. Not about "targeting certain races"
No, not a bit. President of the Republican Action Club:

"To just allow them to walk across the border, bring whatever diseases or bad habits they bring with them, and demand we should treat them like citizens is a bit over the top."

:wow:

19. What diseases???
You made this same, completely uninformed comment on an earlier thread.

There are 2 diseases in particular they bring. They bring multi-drug resistant Tuberculosis in to the country. This is well-documented public health knowledge. Due to ineffective treatment in their country of origin, the M. tuberculosis bacteria develops resistance to most of the drugs used in this country to fight tuberculosis.

They bring an intestinal parasite called Cisticercosis into the country, which causes the deposition of cysts in the brain of affected individuals, forcing such individuals to require anti-seizure medications for the rest of their life.

What is wrong with these people? Has KKKarl planted folks here at DU to make these kind of statements as a means of distracting us? I swear sometimes I feel like I am on a KKK discussion board when I read shit like that here.

The other thing that really annoys me is how ignorant that statement is. It's not like there was never any TB in this country until the dirty Mexicans brought it across the border. And gangs - we are all of a sudden concerned about brown skinned criminals when we have had a gang problem in this country for centuries.

Here's a novel idea - Let's solve our problems instead of blaming them on immigration, etc.

such bigotry should not be tolerated in a "progressive" forum, but somehow people can say almost anything about "illegals" or Arabs and it's just fine.

otherwise, what a load of crap.

Drug-resistant TB is a problem because TB has been developing resistance to antibiotics for decades. It is a huge problem that has nothing to do with "illegals."

:sarcasm:

After all, we needn't take responsibility for any of these problems. We always have brown skinned scapegoats to take the blame!

DISEASE? Immigration causes it

CRIME? Why that is a result of all these criminals crossing our borders. It certainly isn't due to failed or nonexistant domestic policies.

18. What does that have to do with "targeting certain races"
The open borders/amnesty advocates aren't making any sense. "Allowing them to just walk across the border" refers to anyone who illegally walks across the border.

There's nothing even vaguely "racist" about it. It's about "illegality," not race.

I guess everyone is a "racist" who advocates prosecuting someone for illegal activity if they're not American citizens. Apparently anyone who's not an American citizen or legal resident should be allowed to violate certain laws.

"Allowing them to just walk (in our airports, reach our shores, across the northern border)" they did not mention this points of entry used by other immigrants.

28. Just a tid bit point...
if you enter through an airport or border point of entry, you enter 'with inspection' which means you entered lawfully. This does not make you 'illegal.' What makes you 'illegal' is if you do something in violation of your permission to enter the U.S. This includes: overstaying a visa, working illegally, entering the U.S. as a tourist but having other intentions (i.e., visa fraud), etc.

If you enter by avoiding border and/or airport and/or cargo inspection, you are entering illegally.

30. yep, they are using 9-11 to attack latinos
NEW YORK (Reuters) - Immigration activists clashed at the site of the World Trade Center on Wednesday when an anti-illegal immigration group called for secure borders to avoid a repeat of the September 11 attacks and counterprotesters yelled "racists go home."

Members of the Minuteman Project, which patrols the U.S.-Mexican border for illegal immigrants, pushed and shoved members of an immigrant rights group that showed up at the event.

Jim Gilchrist and Jerome Corsi, authors of "Minutemen: The Battle to Secure America's Borders," were whisked away when some immigrant rights supporters broke through a police barrier and scuffled with Minutemen supporters.

51. Immigration and ILLEGAL Immigration is comparing Apples and Oranges
Being against ILLEGAL immigration is not the same as being against LEGAL immigration. The impact on our country has been great already. Check out Frosty Wooldridge and tell me he's 'racist.' He's just reporting what has happened to our country with the floodgates open. Nothing to do with what race anybody is.

It does not matter to righteously argue how the human race is All For One and One For All and EQUALITY means for EVERYONE.

You want it? You GOT IT. There will be NO national border between the USA and Canada, OR the USA and Mexico. YOu will have no special rights or privileges to offer or withhold from anyone from any other country because this country will be a third world slum for ALL. ALL of us. Nothing to puff your chest out and wave your patriotic flag about --- you can't give away anything if you have nothing to offer.

SOme people were against this. Why don't you each think about packing nine or ten illegal immigrants into your home and make it theirs too if you want to help so badly and you believe in giving of what you got to those less fortunate? Oh, you don't wanna put up with that?

You racist hypocrite.

I'm being totally hypothetical here. Anyone who wants to let illegals in and not shut them out of their cozy, private, 1-person-to-a-bedroom home is being truly honest and altruistic. And you're the ones who make a valid point.

The rest of you --- you will not continue to shelter yourselves from the impact of the big melting pot we are about to experience. You will not be allowed to.

But I am okay with that. Just thought you should know the world is finite, really very small, actually, and yes, Americans have taken waaaaay too big a percentage of the pie for waaaay too long.

I see your point. I really do.
