Fight between bikers and Indians near Sturgis, anyone kept up with it?? |
|
I was driving behind a team of Hells Angels on I-80 yesterday headed for Sturgis. This fight over sacred ground of the Lakota and other tribes in the Sturgis area has been brewing for months. Anyone kept up with it? http://www.speroforum.com/site/article.asp?idCategory=33&idsub=134&id=4578&t=Alcohol+license+pits+Native+Americans+vs+bikers

Free Spirit Campground two miles from Bear Butte.
It's not actually on Bear Butte, It probably never should have been sold to any one private, but it is not legally part of Bear Butte...It's unfortunate the NA couldn't have secured it prior.

3. What stopped them from buying it previously or now |
|
I do not support infringing on private property rights because someone nearby finds it offensive if its within reasonable zoning. No slaughterhouse in residential neighborhood is reasonable, but special protection for religous reasons doesn't cut it with me. Already churches etc get special dispensation from much of the zoning rules as it it.

2. Its not between bikers and the Lakota |
|
its between a buisness that wants to build up a facility catering to bikers. Major difference.
I have mixed feelings about it. Private property rights matter to me. I assume the Lakota could have/could still buy the property. If they did not/do not, then they need to deal with it. If you ask me if would allow a BBQ resturant next to a mosque or synagoge...yes I would, since it could be bought out if its neighbors found it offensive.
