Maybe Gore wants to be prodded into running again?
Even though he's said he doesn't want to run, somehow I have a feeling that he actually wants to run, that he's itching to run for office. He just wants to be 'convinced' to run, that he wants this popular movement to call him into action, so that he can go into DC with a clear mandate for change.

I could be reading this wrong, but I just have this funny feeling that this is what he wants. And more power to him!

3. I wish he would run again and the Fake Media

is afraid of him.

I heard Tweety on Imus today -shameful.

Said Gore was so ANGRY and MEAN and needed to calm down.

Recall the Dean Screme twist.
They got the memo.

7. That sounds about right.
I'll personally drag him to the nomination if that's what it takes.

This country really needs him...

8. I'll buy that.
Sounds about right. If they build it, he will come.

It would be a big deal to steal Hillary's shot, though, especially after botching his own.

18. Don't namecall in DU.
And I am more aware of the recount circumstances than you.

Gore should have asked for a full statewide recount. His call for a recount in the counties he and strategists thought would benefit him resulted in the loss of the appearance of propriety. A total manual recount of the statewide vote would be unassailable as the right thing to do, and the irony that this would also have resulted in a Gore victory is surely not lost on me or President Gore. And that's without getting into the overvotes and the felon purge.

But even so, Gore was not the man then that he is today. He was a pollster-driven mess, changing hairstyles and debate demeanors, picking a moderate VP choice to distance himself from Clinton, etc. I totally agree on those counts.

But yes, Gore is perfectly responsible for his failure to beat Bush in 2000. I have no sympathy for people who cry, "The media screwed us," or "They fought dirty," or "They rigged the vote," anymore.

They likely did all these things to Bill Clinton, and he beat them soundly, because he anticipated it and fought back harder and better, and never let himself be caught off-guard in an election.

I watched The War Room recently, and was really impressed with the James Carville of '92. He made it his personal mission to make George Bush his bitch, every single fucking day. If we want to win, we need to find the Carvilles of tomorrow, people who are smarter, faster, and meaner than the Republicans on their worst day.

12. It's too early for Gore to talk openly about 2008
Let's try to see the situation from Gore's point of view.

He already won the nomination once. He won the popular vote and would now be in his 6th year as President were it not for the intervention of the right-wing majority on the US Supreme Court.

He cannot push himself forward for the nomination in the same way that your average Senator or Governor can do it. He has to conduct himself in a more dignified manner. He has to do things that help to unite and strengthen the Party. Not get into fights with other Democrats.

For Gore there is no point in seeking the nomination if he only has like 5% of the people behind him. That would be a complete waste of time, money and energy for him and his supporters. So yes it is all about spreading the word and getting Democrats to stand up for Gore.

I honestly believe that Gore will stand up for us, if we stand up for him.

The question is not only do we want Gore to run for President, but how much do we want it?

One small step you can take is register as a member of www.algore.org

14. I don't think Gore wants to run for any office...
Edited on Wed Jan-18-06 12:34 PM by kentuck
He has credibility and access as a statesman and unofficial spokesman for the Democratic Party in his present position. I think he burned out on politics in 2000 and doesn't want to get back into that rat race in a personal way. Just my opinion.

15. It's not about what Gore wants
It's about what America and the world needs!

If there was anyone else who would make a better President, I would support him or her 100%

But right now Al Gore is the best qualified candidate we could hope to have.

16. The last time anything like that strategy worked was 1960 when
Adlai Stevenson tried it. What can I say, JFK was nominated.... If you want the office, you need to WANT the office bad enough to get off your ass and fight for it, day in and day out. No one's gonna hand it to you on a silver platter. Gore had better feel that "draft" pretty damn soon if he's to have any chance at all.

I would love to see him run, but I take the man at his word. He's too astute politically to expect a miracle.

17. Take him at his word
OK - but Gore has never completely ruled out the possibility of running again.

Right now is too early for Gore to take a decision about 2008.

And it is definitely too early for him to start talking about it openly.
