The World Wants Peace
After 9/11, the world fully supported the U.S. in it's mission to destroy Al Qaeda and other terrorists organizations. Lebanon, along with the rest of the world, saught to put an end to terrorism and was a country seeking peace in the Middle East. Lebanon has captured Al Qaeda members and has been an ally of the U.S. in fighting global terrorism. Lebanon was working to meet its obligations to U.N. Security Council resolution 1559, established in late 2004, to rid Lebanon of foreign and guerilla militant forces. Even though Lebanon was making progress to meet its obligations, it was not able to completely controll the terrorist organization of Hezbollah. Even though it took TWENTY TWO YEARS for Isreal to comply with U.N. resolution 425 when it was ordered to withdraw from Lebanon (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UN_Security_Council_Resolution_425), Israel decided to claim that Lebanon's lack of response to UNSC1559 was justification for invasion and bombardment of the Lebanese civilian population. When the U.N. called for a cease fire on July 13th of this year, the Bush Administration working through Acting Ambassador Bolton, VETOED the only CHANCE FOR PEACE to this situation.

The World HAS a SOLUTION to the problem in the middle east, but the Bush Administration is BLOCKING IT.

The solution to stop killing people with an IMMEDIATE CEASE FIRE and inject a U.N. peacekeeping force, expanding the role of UNIFIL in order to control and dismantle Hezbollah. The Bush Administration doesn't want that. They, and many Americans, including several members of DU would see THOUSANDS, TENS OF THOUSANDS, and potentially HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS of INNOCENT CIVILIANS killed in order to kill every member of Hezbollah.

Unfortunately, it worn't work. That is an approach that is proven to fail. Did Al Qaeda get stronger or weaker with the U.S. invasion and occupation of Iraq? Has global terrorism increased or decreased since the war in Iraq? The only thing that will be accomplished with the mass destruction that Israel is bringing upon the Lebanese is the creation of more terrorists and a complete destabilization of security in the Middle East and potentially, world wide.

The World Wants Peace. The Bush Administration wants Mass Destruction.
