AAARRRGGG!!! Clinton, Schumer reconsider opposition to Bolton
kpete: If this is true: Clinton & Schumer are dead to me

Conservative site: Clinton, Schumer reconsider opposition to Bolton

RAW STORY
Published: Wednesday July 26, 2006

Senators Hillary Clinton (D-NY) and Charles Schumer (D-NY) are "seriously reconsidering” filibustering the appointment of Ambassador John Bolton to the UN, according to conservative site Newsmax.

"The reason," the site reports: "With war raging in the Middle East, the two are facing increasing pressure from pro-Israel groups to forgo another Democratic filibuster against Bolton."

The report seems to based upon a statement by American Jewish Congress chair Jack Rosen.

23. I can't easily define myself as one of your options...
Yes, I think going into Iraq was a ridiculous way to TRY to "stop terrorism", and I don't believe they had WMD's (and if they did, I don't believe there were enough to threaten us). I think that Saddam had to go, but I also think we had plenty of other options on the table including increased diplomacy and more squeezing of Saddam.

I also agree that the whole fiasco was poorly executed.

I guess I'd fit into option 2 better...

4. That about says it all...
Yet another capitulation to the other side AND the lobbies of ANOTHER COUNTRY to betray the Democratic Party and its constituents.

They disgust me.

5. Well, that makes a LITTLE more sense I suppose
They can still vote 'no'. It's the fillibuster thing as opposed to the vote on his confirmation.

Still....:banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

17. Filibustering is the only opposition
We don't have the votes to defeat him. If they allow it to come to a vote, he's in.

11. The original article is from The New York Sun, Newsmax doesn't
have reporters, I believe they only editorialize and repost others article.

15. Maybe DU should remind Clinton and Schumer that they are there
to represent the citizens of NY, not the pro-Israel groups. Bolton is out to destroy the UN, and I guess Israel is out to kill UN personnel. Is this what the people of NY want?

The fact there is a war going on in the ME right now is all the more reason to reject Bolton. We need a real diplomat in that position more than ever.

21. "Politics matters." Yes indeed.
Edited on Wed Jul-26-06 03:01 PM by chill_wind
"Given the fact that we face a world today where every decision every day seems to count, we cannot allow any disruption in who plays the lead role in representing the United States," the chairman of the American Jewish Congress, Jack Rosen, said. "This is not a time for a void.It is not a time to take away someone who's represented us well at the United Nations, putting aside for the moment any squabbles or disagreements with the administration."

Mr. Rosen said he has written letters to members of the Foreign Relations Committee urging their support, and that he hopes the lack of a statement from Mr. Schumer and Mrs. Clinton is an indication that they are changing their position. "I think they would understand that the Jewish community is supporting Bolton and that when you represent a large Jewish community in New York, politics matters," he said.

Hillary, Hillary. Politics matters. You can't hardly give all that money back now:
