"What would you do if you got on a bus full of fags?" |
|
A lot of us DUers seem to enjoy accounts of conversations that they've had with morons, so here's mine.
I work for a construction company, not typically an industry known for its tolerant and progressive workforce I know, and about a dozen us lower level managers were in Houston for a meeting. We were shooting the breeze before the meeting and one of the higher-up guys, an estimator, stuck his head in the door and with a joking mood asked, "Hey guys, what would you all do if you got onto a bus full of fags?"
He pointed to each of us for our response one-by-one. The answers were what you'd expect.
"I don't know. Kick all their asses I guess."
"Maybe you just have to suck it up." "Wait - you don't have to suck anything." "Haha!"
"I guess I'd kick all their asses too." This was by far the most popular response.
Each response got a praising smile from the estimator. Then he pointed at me.
"I know what'd I'd do. I would pay the bus driver and sit down. And when my stop came ... (paused for anticipation) ... I'd get off the bus."
The looks around the room seemed mostly confused as if there was an anti-gay joke that they weren't getting. Some started to smile thinking I was about to say such a joke, but then their smiles flattened when nothing came. Then I looked around the room at them like they were all a bunch of stupid, knuckle-dragging morons.
The estimator left the room and that was the end of the conversation.
I'm pretty positive that I was appropriately labeled after that as a "fag" or, slightly less horrible, a "fag-lover."
Feels great to be a "fag-lover" though.

3. I'd ask "Were they lit?" |
|
Or were they tucked into their packs and cartons?
Sounds like you have a terribly insecure or confused coworker, at the least. At the worst, he's just a shit.

5. Ask for fashion advice? Decorating tips? |
|
Sorry, bad stereotype but all the gay guys I've known were forever trying to tell me how to dress or complimenting me on my attire.
And most of them had homes that were gorgeous.
/end dialog with stereotypes

on the bottom of the pile with their underwear at their ankles if the "fags" saw his guard was down ... and the ironic thing probably is that they are likely the last type that homosexuals would find attractive ...

I have been called a lesbian or a fag hag many many times. I consider it a compliment, it is certainly not an insult.
Good job. I find the less I get upset and the more reasonably and calmly I present my opinion the more stunned and contemplative I leave a group.

16. The expression you used - |
|
fag hag. Must mean something different in the USA compared with the UK. Over here it's used to refer to straight girls who hang out with gay guys - usually older women. Not a very nice expression anyway infact quite unkind .x(

I work with a GLBT rights organization and am not GLB or T that is why I get called that.
Frankly I could care less what people call me as long as I am doing what I think is right and just.

more humorous. Comedian Margaret Cho proudly calls herself a "fag hag."

9. I rode with them every Friday on the Long Island Rairoad |
|
They were all going to Fire Island for the weekend. I worked with some(we were textile designers) Remember that sad PBS movie about when they found out from the NY times about aids and how it was killing them. I knew some of those people. Sad, a lot of designers died at that time in the 80's. I lived on the Island and traveled the same train not as a gay, I was a single mother before it became the thing to do if you had problems with the father that couldn't be resolved any other way.

Oh and I love all the "I'd kick their asses" responses. I know a couple gay guys who could probably take most construction workers apart with their bare hands. Freakin homophobes are funny, it's as if some other persons sexuality threatens their manhood. I used to do sound at the Denver Pride Fest, I always got the cross-dressing stage because the rest of the crew were all fundies and homophobes. I always had a blast, where else could a working guy like me get hit on by the likes of Madonna, Cher, and Diana Ross all in one day :D

21. If you are in the right part of town at the right time in Houston |
|
this could happen, you could be in Montrose. These "knuckle-draggers" wouldn't get on a bus, they would hail a taxi. Anything is possible in Houston just not hailing a cab.

25. Reminds me of something I overheard some time ago. |
|
My city had just elected an openly gay mayor, which was a non-issue to most people, but of course very disturbing to the homophobes. I overheard two of them talking about what changes might be wrought, and one was hilariously and utterly convinced that the mayor's first move would be to build "a big pink homo palace." My friends and I just started laughing at them, picturing as we were something like a Pepto-Bismol-coloured Taj Mahal.
