Caller on Stephanie Miller show says that, she also said it sounds like his office is getting bombarded. Keep up the good work on this DU and give his office a call. I will update in a second with his contact information.

Call the Washington Office here: 202-224-2921

3. She seemed pretty sure on this and was also stating that she was on
hold for a long time, but that added to her belief that he is taking a lot of calls right now.

5. called the number but
the guy who answered.... who was very receptive, stated that for my call to really count I needed to call the washington office at 202-224-2921. He explained that his number was the campaign and that he wanted to make sure my opinion was heard at the washington office.

Edited on Wed Jan-18-06 12:14 PM by Rose Siding
WASHINGTON -- Sen. Lincoln Chafee, a GOP swing vote in Supreme Court nominee Samuel Alito’s Senate confirmation fight, said Thursday he is still undecided about President Bush’s high court pick.
snip>
" I want some time to have some further discussions with other senators and constituents here in Rhode Island," the senator said. " I just want to get as much information as possible. I don’t want to lean any way until I’ve heard it all."

The senator said he remains concerned about Alito’s views on critical issues such as abortion rights, the separation of church and state and warrantless electronic wiretaps.

JUST as important!: "Rhode Island Sen. Jack Reed, a Democrat, is also undecided on Alito.

if I were from RI, I would make sure they knew that. If he thinks he'll lose his election....he may think twice.:)

11. My guess is that he will vote against Alito but will not support a
filibuster. So in effect, he would be allowing him to be confirmed and then can go home and say he voted against him. But lets keep it up just in case...

14. Not supporting a fillibuster = supporting Alito. A "no" vote isn't enough.
Edited on Wed Jan-18-06 01:07 PM by Wordie
I'm really glad you brought that up! Just planning to vote "no" on confirmation isn't enough on this one. It's important to tell our Senators that a "no" vote really doesn't count in stopping Alito and won't count for us when we consider their further campaigns for office.

There's probably a bit more tactful way of conveying that than I did just then, though - we don't want to antagonize them! ...Or maybe it depends on the particular Senator.

21. Yeah! Wouldn't invoking the nuclear option require 50 votes?
Could Frist really get that? Would that many Republicans choose confirming Alito if the cost was to lose the fillibuster forever? Bush and the Republican leadership doesn't have the clout they did when the "nuclear option" was first threatened, after all.

28. That's what I told Sen. Feinstein's office as a reason to fillibuster...
That the Repubs aren't as strong as they were when the threat was made, and they might not make good on the threat. They don't want to loose it either. I also said that it made no sense to avoid risking the fillibuster when the alternative is a dangerous judge who will be on the bench for decades.
