14 Democrats vote with 51 Republicans on interstate abortion bill |
|
As usual, the Republicans had a majority that made the Democrats' votes meaningless as to the outcome . . . but the votes are revealing, nonetheless. http://www.senate.gov/legislative/LIS/roll_call_lists/roll_call_vote_cfm.cfm?congress=109&session=2&vote=00216

1. Good for them if it helps them get re-elected. |
|
They have to answer to the people in their states, not you.
I would rather have 51 dems in the senate even if some voted yes on this than 37 dems of pure liberal credentials.

6. I agree with you patcox2. We have to play the game if we want to win. |
|
I was kind of disappointed with Feinstein, though. She needs to build her credentials with the liberals, actually.

I agree with previous poster. Repugs had a clear majority on this one. Might as well shore up support from home state.

He must be thinking "What the hey, it's not like my state borders any other state, so who cares?" :eyes:

4. Lieberman has ALWAYS been strongly pro-choice |
|
Check his record. Fear does not motivate his votes on a woman's right to choose.

7. This was the bill that made it a crime to help a minor cross state lines |
|
to get an abortion. So if a grandmother or a teacher or a boyfriend helped a girl get an abortion out of state, they could be prosecuted.
