Do the news reporters think there is some law against wearing a tie in

Israel or Lebanon?

6. yeah, a coat and tie... in your air conditioned house, car and
office. Sure, you might go outside for a while, even a few hours, but try living round the clock with the heat and no AC. I think you'd be dropping the coat and tie pretty quick. :-)

The other, and perhaps more relevant, reason is that a coat and tie stands out like a sore thumb, hence presenting a nice target for Israel or Hezbollah.

3. I wouldn't either...
I mean, face it, you'd look kinda silly wearing a coat and tie in the middle of the desert. Remember Nixon's walk along the beach while wearing a suit? Hell, I wasn't even born yet, and even I know how creepy he looked.

11. The real question is why do they wear ties normally?
Dress clothing in general.

Dressed-up news anchors always look absurd to me. Dress clothes should be banned utterly and entirely; if it were up to me, they would be.

12. Don't people there dress more casually due to the climate?
I've never been to Israel, but I have lived my whole life in sunny climes -- places where if you travel to the East Coast or other hyper-formal (by our standards) places, you have to raid your friends' closets to put together (a) a business-like ensemble that's up to their standards, and (b) a winter wardrobe.

Call me provincial, but in Hawaii there's a sound reason to wear muu-muus and aloha shirts, and in SoCal climate also plays a large role in wardrobe decisions.
