Congressman Conyers: Tech Trouble in the Voting Booth
The Washington Post's Zachary Goldfarb has a good article on the problems posed by electronic voting. While he does not delve too deeply into the issue of how vulnerable the machines are to being hacked, he does highlight the problems local jurisdictions are facing.

Goldfarb has done some excellent reporting recently on a number of political issues and, although he barely scratches the surface here, it is encouraging that some in the mainstream media have begun to turn their attention to the serious problem here.

As you may know, I have introduced legislation H.R. 533, the Voting Opportunity and Technology Enhancement Rights Act, which calls for a verifiable paper trail for all voting machines. This is an issue that you know is very important to me and the hearings I held on Ohio's 2004 election is one of the most significant projects I have ever undertaken.

I am pleased that the media is slowly awakening to this issue, but we need to encourage them to investigate more. Lou Dobbs has done some excellent work on this subject and hopefully more reporters will soon follow his lead.
