Women and children died in Israel today.
They also died in Iraq and Lebanon.

And Afghanistan.

And just about every other place America is trying to install "Democracy."

Please revisit Barry McGuire's Eve of Destruction. http://www.tuff-teach.com/pics/Maguire-Eve_Destruction.mp3

1. i'm sure children died in the US too for lack of food and a
decent place to live. it always amazes me that in a country as rich as we are children go to bed hungry and we have homeless people on the street.

Behind the Aegis and I don't agree on what's happening in the ME right now, but your response was totally out in left field. Can we find no common ground in caring for all who suffer, no matter whether abroad or at home?

16. It's not "left field" at all......
Year, after year, after year, the US sends/gives millions of dollars to israel and supports her(?) with weapons and technology. While here at HOME (the USA) the needy and the folks who have been hit with DISASTER, through no fault of their own, go TOTALLY without any adequate help, of which the US government is totally capable of (but doesn't) provide!?!?

So why single her out, especially as a response to me? Is it my posts or my avatar that brought that statement on?

29. Israel gets the "most aid" and the "best aid" and for an apparently
indefinite time period.........Why is that? (I don't know the answer to this, so someone knowledgeable, please educate me/us on the subject).

As for: Is it my posts or my avatar that brought that statement on? I don't understand what your avatar is/means anyway....so, I guess that would be a "NO".

43. Sorry...I had other things to do and took a shower...
Israel is an ally in a very precarious area of the world. They also get money due to a "settlement" that also provides money to Egypt (and I believe Jordan). As for it being the "best," well that is subjective. I know that much of what is provided is top-notch, but again, that is because there is a "market" there. It is also not an indefinite period of time. The amount of money that goes to Israel is less than one percent of all monies collected in taxes. Does that suffice? Since that is not really the topic of this thread, this is a slight "hi-jacking," but I hope it helps.

after katrina they had the nerve to say we had to cut back while day after day they fund an illegal war in iraq.

Especially New Orleans!

<:sarcasm: off>

Even these are dwarfed by the ongoing but less visible genocides in Sudan and Congo.

But Israel seems to be the target of choice for the self-righteous.

5. I heard a chilling report today...
... that at a conference for post-Katrina disaster preparedness, only 50% of 183 cities surveyed have made any disaster plans whatsoever, including evacuation plans. Heaven help those who may be the next victims of disaster in this country. Our pockets seem bottomless for war, yet empty when it comes to helping the millions right here at home who are in need.

15. Many here in NOLA do not have an evacuation plan...STILL!
I was watching the news, and they were saying something like 60% (maybe higher) do not have an evacuation plan! We just moved here, but I can already tell you, my partner and I, as well, as the cat, the dog, the parrot, the lovebirds, the canaries, the 16 finches, the 6 hamsters, and the 2 fish...will beat a path out of NOLA in no time flat! I am very fortunate that we have two cars and a place to go...family in Atlanta. I am more afraid for those that came back and now are in trailers, and STILL have no place to go...not even here in NOLA because places are still under construction and wouldn't withstand another hit!

This country is fraught with perils and people still have no plan. We just left Oklahoma, where we dealt with tornadoes and wildfires. It always amazed me that they had to have signs saying "Do NOT drive into the smoke!" LOL! I am mean, really! That's like having a "no swimming" sign on a shark tank!

I can't be too enraged because I wasn't here when it happened. I was as shocked as the rest of the country and watched in horror as our governments failed our people! I watched in dismay as FOREIGN governments responded FASTER than our own! We have only been here two months. We CHOSE to move here! This city is still not fully recovered, but it is still just as magical and beautiful, nonetheless!

31. Sure...
My partner was offered an opportunity to transfer here. We jumped on it! Since we saw NOLA 4 years ago, we have been trying to move here! We fell IN LOVE with this city! We moved from Oklahoma, were I lived for 7 years and my partner is originally from.

We are still settling in and have a very nice home. It is much smaller than our home in OK, so our house looks like a storage locker...I would laugh if it didn't stress me out so much! :) We are blocks from the French Quarter and have some great neighbors.

Parts of the city are still a mess, but the resolve of the New Orleans people is undeniable! They have also been very welcoming of those of us who have chosen to move here.

44. Agreed
It sickens me how people say "women and children" and act like it's ok that men die.

A life is a life is a life. Just because someone has a penis doesn't mean they can't be just as "innocent" as the women and children.

But that deals with the sexism of our culture and how women are weak defenseless creatures that need to be protected. Sickening to see that attitude on here.

19. The right put out a single shortly after that song.
The Dawn of Correction
The Spokesmen
- written by Raymond J. Gilmore, John Madara and David White (The Spokesmen)
- David White was formerly with Danny & The Juniors
- as recorded by The Spokesmen (released September 18, 1965)
- entered the Billboard Top 40 the week of October 9, 1965 and
stayed for 3 weeks, peaking at #36 the week of October 16, 1965
- answer song to Barry McGuire's "Eve of Destruction"

The western world has a common dedication
To keep free people from Red domination
And maybe you can't vote, boy, but man your battle stations
Or there'll be no need for votin' in future generations

So over and over again, you keep sayin' it's the end
But I say you're wrong, we're just on the dawn of correction

There are buttons to push in two mighty nations
But who's crazy enough to risk annihilation?
The buttons are there to ensure negotiation
So don't be afraid, boy, it's our only salvation

So over and over again, you keep sayin' it's the end
But I say you're wrong, we're just on the dawn of correction

You tell me that marches won't bring integration
But look what it's done for the voter registration
Be thankful our country allows demonstrations
Instead of condemnin', make some recommendations
I don't understand the cause of your aggravation
You mean to tell me, boy, it's not a better situation?

So over and over again, you keep sayin' it's the end
But I say you're wrong, we're just on the dawn of correction

You missed all the good in your evaluation
What about the things that deserve commendation?
Where there once was no cure, there's vaccination
Where there once was a desert, there's vegetation
Self-government's replacing colonization
What about the Peace Corp. organization?
Don't forget the work of the United Nations

So over and over again, you keep sayin' it's the end
But I say you're wrong, we're just on the dawn of correction
But I say you're wrong, we're just on the dawn of correction

So over and over again, you keep sayin' it's the end
But I say you're wrong, we're just on the dawn of correction

"At the Hop" was better.

say it was predicted in the bible.

i remember seeing a documentary about nostradamus and much of what he predicted seems to be coming true.

back in the early 80s i was studying metaphysics and i read that in the year 2000 the earth was going to shift on it's axis and there would be floods, earthquakes, famine, etc. etc. after 2000 came and went and nothing happened i figured it was just crap. then came the tsunamai and the earth did shift on its axis.
