I'd Say That It Is A Sure Sign That Your Government Sucks When...

People start seeing signs of the end times all around and begin packing their rapture bags.

Could that really indicate a government that is doing a good job? Seriously?

2. If I ever see something like that in the sky,
I am going to start thinking that someone just created the world's largest film project. But when I was little , there fundies all around where I lived who preached only about the end times. It scared the crap out of me. And I used to really believe that the sky was going to open up and something like in the picture you posted was going to happen. Seriously messed my mind up as a kid.

3. "rapture bags"? When the rapture happens
I'm gonna take their cars.

In my little bluest Town in the USA, I saw a brand-new LandRover today with a bumpersticker that read:

God's Clock is Ticking
Look for Jesus' Return

9. I'm an agnostic, but....
If Jesus comes around the US, I will contact the ICC to have him prosecuted for war crimes from the past Christian based wars.

4. I don't know if it has to do with the government
More like the state of mind of the people doing the packing. They let themselves believe outrageous things to the point that they've gone straight into utter fantasy land. They are like five year olds on an extended imagination vacation.

8. IMHO
it has a great deal to do with who's running our government at the moment. When one looks carefully at some of the ways they've used religion to fan the flames amongst the masses, and when one looks closely at all the interconnectedness between various religious organizations and the players in our government, it is not difficult to see how they are fueling this. The only question that remains in my mind is, do these people pulling the strings really believe in this sh*t, or are they just using all this religiosity as a means to their goals?

12. The politicians?
The only question that remains in my mind is, do these people pulling the strings really believe in this sh*t, or are they just using all this religiosity as a means to their goals?

A little of both. There are lawmakers who truly believe in that crap because they try to get laws passed that reflect their "values". Legislators in MO considered a bill that would make Christianity the official state religion. Then SD outlaws abortion and MI tries to follow (as do a number of other states). 11 states have outlawed gay marriage, and the only "valid" argument against that is the religious one. However some politicians are just pandering to their rabidly religious voters as well. They give lip service to the religion to keep the votes, throw the voters a few trinkets every now and then but otherwise go on with their own agendas.
