39. Bolton speaking/Kissinger's letter/Protesters 1 & 2
Prepared statement to present, thanking Warner for the "kind introduction"

thanking some for their support over the last year

your work has advanced certain policy goals of the Bush regime

thanking family blah blah blah

quoting Bush...UN needs to fulfill it's original promise

Now praising those he works with at the UN...his team...

Speaking on ME

Claiming the US is doing all it can to resolve the problem

quoting the durable solution line for the ME

Claims he and the US are working closely with the UN council

Hezbollah and Hamas are the problem

actively considering a variety of tactics to get rid of hezbollah and hamas to reduce attacks on israel

mentions civilian deaths(very very briefly)....calls them a tragedy and moves on to Israel's right to self defense

onto Iran...how Iran threatens peace and security

now onto the role of china and russia regarding Iran

now on to Darfur....it's bad...we're doing this/that...working with various groups

he just said "we'll call genocide by it's rightful name and we will stand up for the innocents"

Speaking on how the UN needs reform and that it needs transparency of it's workings

still knocking the UN and how he and his group are working to make it better and how disappointed he is that the new council is like the old council (relief/food)

very pleased that Laura Bush addressed conference on AIDS, and boasting that Bush's plan on AIDS is well on it's way

He says that "they" (him and his group) have advanced the cause of the US

question time

Protester..woman...pink shirt..bolton's name on it(front) something on theback...can't tell..."Bolton should not go to the UN. He does not represent the best interests of the US and does not represent her." she is ejected from the room

Lugar reading a praise of Bolton by Kissinger

Bolton is great. Bolton is good. Bolton is wonderful. Vote for Bolton.

Another protester!!!! 75 year old woman ..."Bolton does NOT speak for me" "We are becoming the terrorist" She is ejected

Edited on Thu Jul-27-06 09:22 AM by babylonsister
It's new to me!

tr.v. le·git·i·mat·ed, le·git·i·mat·ing, le·git·i·mates (-mt)

To make legitimate, as:

1. To give legal force or status to; make lawful.
2. To establish (a child born out of wedlock) as legitimate by legal means.
3. To sanction formally or officially; authorize.
4. To demonstrate or declare to be justified.

50. Biden up...Chafee's opening question (a good one)
Was at the signing of the voter's rights act...late for this

Agrees with Dodd's comments earlier

My concerns continue to relate to style..substance (regarding Bolton)

overriding concerns...continuing conviction that your boss doesn't think diplomacy is that consequential and that "we" the US as a whole, is not very effective at it during this moment in history

American power most effective when it's legitimated by global consensus

and that he questions the value puts on diplomacy and that he even appears to be at odds with the Secretary

asking if Bolton's statements were cleared by the WH regarding Iran and the EU3..Biden found the comments alarming (said comments were made at an earlier time...not today)

Bolton is saying:

context of the comments made to be considered ( in other words...ad hoc positioning of the comments)

Bolton still explaining his position on Iran, the tri-country alliance working with Iran (Britain, France, Germany or the EU-3)

Biden asking how important it is for european allies and the us being on the same page

Bolton claiming it "can" be (the but hanging) and continues with no real answer

As an aside, I can't look at Bolton without being reminded of those cartoons with the short mad scientist running about his lab intent of world domination or destruction...the cartoon character has a huge white mustache and hair very much like Bolton's.

OK...must regroup... we have a cartoon character at the UN.

Need coffee.

Chafee up

Terrorism is a device...not a root cause

asking Bolton to clarify calling terrorism a root cause

Bolton saying the same old shit of not returning to the status quo (like they want the status quo to change - they are the keeper's of the status quo)

LMAO...Chafee "Can't you get any deeper than terrorism"( is the cause)

I really need coffeee...

65. Allen up...thanks Bolton for being so wonderful
and he hopes for an up or down vote

(Mentally smacks Allen for general purposes and to get that simpering smile off his face)

Allen is speaking of human rights issue(the list of abusive nations)...how Bolton tried to get it reformed
(snort)

back to 1559

Bolton - as long as hezbollah continues as a state within a state 1559 can't be carried out

Bolton calls Iran the paymasters of Hezbollah and that they're calling the tune

(now let's apply that comment to others)

Allen quoting a recent statement - alquaeda is joining in with hezbollah and hamas and this jihad will last until our religion prevails around the world...to get in the phrase that "this" is a global war (on terror)

Bolton linking China with Iran (missile/weapon sales) and saying Iran supplies Hezbollah with rockets/missiles

Bolton saying China needs to understand they their selling weapons to Iran is a destabilizing force that will ultimately hurt them as well

(ah...ah...ah...nevermind)

81. his recess appt does extend til next Congress,
but with the prevailing feeling of changes in Congress as a result of the Dem's making headways into the Republican strongholds and the current need for a voice supporting the Israeli's in their conflict it became imperative to have Bolton confirmed while there's still a friendly Congress.

Just my opinion.................................

88. I think this snip from Rawstory says it all as to why now,
(snip)
Now that Voinovich (R-OH) is back on the reservation and Bolton is seen as Israel’s biggest defender every day at the U.N., the White House sees a wedge issue in calling Biden’s bluff and embarrassing the Democrats by having a hearing after all," one Democratic aide to a member of the Committee said.

82. think about it-will next Congress likely confirm him & do these weiners
have the guts to stand up to him in the midst of the current crisis.

It was a political decision to get Bush's man while he could be gotten.

84. A Senator requested it...
Fast-track: Hearings scheduled next Thursday after key critic changes stance

A spokesman for ranking Foreign Relations Democrat Joe Biden (D-DE) said a notice went out this morning.

According to a Biden's office, the senator recently requested a hearing after the Chairman of the Committee, Richard Lugar (D-IN), indicated that Bolton's nomination might come up for a vote again. Bolton was appointed by President Bush during a congressional recess after the Senate refused to appoint him.

79. Still Dodd/NSA/Wiretapping/Bolton's role - Coleman
Dodd is telling Bolton that his role is still an issue

Bolton explains how he...nor anyone else...did anything that didn't have layers of oversight...that he couldn't just ask for a file on a name...he had to give a good reason (lololololololol)

Bolton said Dodd could ask Negroponte...so Dodd said that could happen

Lugar's smarmy face is interjecting his thoughts on asking Negroponte

back to Dodd

Asking about a conflict in testimony from his first hearing/ nomination

Bolton claiming his memory isn't good since time has passed since then

Coleman's up...(refraining from comments on his father)

Asking about consensus with Europe...and is trying to say Bolton is being blamed for any dissenting opinions from Europe and that no one has an objection to Bolton personally but US policy

and saying the President has the right to have his voice represented at the UN....(the people's voice can go fuck themselves)

Helms-Biden...hold back arrears unless UN reforms...and offering it up as a solution now

Coleman asking about the next step for "real" reform (at the UN)

Bolton's answer
1 - management reform
2 - mandate review
3 - continue work on whistle blower protection

Coleman ask if there is anything other than discussion going on...any kind of leverage to use against the UN to get the reforms of the UN that Bush wants

Bolton says for Congress to make it's voice heard for the UN to reform

Coleman back to Helms - Biden (to withhold financial resources as leverage against the UN)

Coleman continues in kissing Bolton's ass some more and asking if his opinion of the UN has changed

Bolton says No

89. Feingold up
Speaking of Bolton's inability to seek and achieve consensus

Bolton taking issue ..citing North Korea as an example otherwise..and that it takes more than one to disagree (so it's not him)

Feingold bringing up Bolton's thoughts on Coleman bringing up Helms-Biden (not paying UN dues as leverage to reform)

Asking Bolton if the US should do that

Bolton..Yes (Bolton's been speaking on doing just that in interviews)

1 - Bush has more on his plate than any other President

It's the "war President" needs to have the people he wants at such a critical time and those who oppose such thinking are hurting America argument
