So Saddam's execution really is the Republican's "October Surprise"
Edited on Thu Jul-27-06 08:22 AM by gatorboy
to boost mid term elections. The question is, will it matter anymore?

By BUSHRA JUHI, Associated Press Writer

BAGHDAD, Iraq - Lawyers gave their closing arguments Thursday for the last two defendants in Saddam Hussein's trial, and the chief judge adjourned the proceedings until mid-October when the ex-president and two top lieutenants could be sentenced to death.

15. Heh! Sorry 'bout that!
I heard it earlier this morning on NPR while driving in to work and as soon as I heard that the execution was planned for mid-October the alarms went off.

3. Another dead cat bounce
probabbly less of a bounce than when we killed his sons and took out all the number twos.

5. I remember when "October Surprise" meant something!
Gee, they're tipping their hand about October and it's still JULY! And, let's face it, firing squads all around really won't be much of a surprise, will it?

6. Won't do much ...
If he's found innocent, which is highly unlikely, shrub will look like shit.

If he's found guilty, no suprise there, and will give him a bounce about as high as Zakawi's body hitting the ground. Besides, it's the repugs in Congress who are the candidates, and their trying to avoid association with him.

9. With the war raging in Iraq and civil
war having broken out, how much is Saddam's execution really going to matter to people? Maybe the fundie wingnuts but I don't think it will make much of an impression to the majority of people. Saddam is old news. He is irrelevant to what is going on right now.

10. Let's make our October surprise..... about death too!
Won't that be fun?

BUT we can gather statistics on:
1) How many people have died from or been diagnosed things that could possibly be treated/cured/prevented by Stem Cell Research
2) US troops and Iraqi civilians dead
3) Lebanese and Israeli civilian dead
4) Deaths from Madrid and London bombings
5) People dead from ignoring Darfur
6) Last but certainly not least..... death related to Katrina.

I think our numbers are more impressive, don't you?

12. Some surprise, more like a pre scripted event timed for November.
We all know he'll be executed, what surprise? Its really more of a packaging ploy to show how we've sent Saddam to his virgins.

13. Convicting Saddam of War Crimes is One Thing
Wiping out a village that was collaborating with an enemy and had launched an assassination attempt is a crime, after all.

But how on earth can the US support Saddam's execution AND the Israeli bombing of Beirut, which is the same kind of collective punishment on a much larger scale for reasons that are much more of a stretch?

16. Is there enough blood in his old carcass to satisfy American bloodlust?
I hardly think so. We want thousands of dead bodies...maybe nuking Iran AND Syria would do.
