Abu Muhammad

He has sent his wife and five children to Syria to escape the Israeli bombardment.

"If I am going to die, it is best to die at home. I don't give a damn about those bastards flying overhead. We have been through worse."

Rose Khalaf

A UK passport-holder, she was born to Lebanese-Spanish parents in Sierra Leone. She was being evacuated with her two grandchildren from Tyre to Cyprus, leaving her husband to look after his sick mother.

"I have to get out of this country, and I don't think I ever want to come back."

Qassim Shalan

The Red Cross worker was injured when Israeli rockets hit the ambulance he was travelling in to rescue other victims from the bombardment outside Tyre.

"I was bombed yesterday and am wounded on my chin, leg and blood came out of my ear.

"But I have come to work because I have to help my country and my people."

Rasha Saleh

She is a hospital nurse from Nabatiya who is stranded at home in Tyre. She is doing volunteer Red Cross work, going round to people's houses and refugee centres and providing emergency aid.

"There are tragedies everywhere, so I must do everything I can to give medical and moral help."

Mariam Muhammad

The mother-of-10 is sheltering in Jafaria School after fleeing her home village of Jabal al-Batan.

"We escaped by car under heavy Israeli bombing, in front of us and behind us. We have only one set of clothes each, which we wash every night and just have dry bread and tomatoes to eat."

Moussa Muhanna

He has taken refuge in Jafaria School after fleeing Jabal al-Batan.

"We managed to escape some days ago, but my cousin and her daughter were killed yesterday by Israeli bombing which destroyed their house. They were unable to escape and the husband was unable to reach the village to rescue them."

Dibeh Shmas (in blue)

She lives in a classroom at Jafaria School with 22 people from four families, all from a neighbourhood in the village of Kafra.

"We are too frightened of the bombing to go on the top floor where some of us have rooms. We all escaped together and we are sticking together now, in case we have to escape again."

Do these people look like terrorists to you? According to Israel, if these people are still in the South, they are now considered Hezbollah.

When will this madness end????

2. They're the same as the Katrina victims in that
when they die, it will be their own damn fault. :sarcasm:

Am I the only one who noticed that this is essentially the same excuse that the American right wing blowhards used last year to deflect blame?

3. I 1st thought of that when I heard about leaflets being dropped
Warning people to get out.

Didnt we already go over that during Katrina.

Also, didnt Israel bomb all the bridges and roads???

4. The two health care workers may actually work with Hezbollah
because that is who runs the hospitals in southern Lebanon. Hezbollah also runs the schools the rest are sheltering in, along with the water treatment and food distribution facilities.

So Israel feels completely justified in killing them all, even the old folks, the mothers, and the children.

This is sick.

5. My heart goes out to them.
I can't imagine being in their situation. I hope with all my heart they'll be okay.
