Should I be a poll worker? |
|
Our Secretary of State is calling for additional poll workers on Nov 06. They're short 1,000 volunteers.
I'm wondering if anyone else has been a poll worker and what the experience was like.
I'm concerned that I might not be able to take 16 hours in the same room with a Diebold machine.
Should I bring along a video camera?

1. Why would you be there for 16 hours? |

3. Video camera? Probably not. But what about a video cell phone? |
|
Just a thought.
Not to be subversive, or anything.
I'm looking into being a poll worker in my area. Sixteen hours with a diebold machine may be just what you/I/we need to see exactly how our election system now functions; painful though it may be to watch.
My biggest concern about being a poll worker is that I'd have to stay quiet about politics, for a long period of time during a political activity. I'm afraid my head might explode.

4. Yes, because if you see any impropriety with the machines, etc. |
|
you can testify as an eyewitness. Your volunteering may help further protection of our right to vote.
I've volunteered and found it gratifying just in helping my neighbors vote.

it is important that we have Democrats in every precinct in the country. It's hard to cheat when you are being watched.

I live in a VERY republican suburb and I couldn't just stand by and watch another theft w/o at least trying to be a witness.
BTW, better hurry, the training starts in a couple of weeks.

Something all concerned citizens should do. You can work for the election commission at the polls or work for the party as a poll observer or spend the day passing out information and supporting your candidates just outside the polling place.
But you will probably not be allowed to bring a recording device inside the polls. As this is generally illegal.

9. Without a doubt. And try to do it in a Democratic district. |

The Repug districts will likely be well-staffed.
