Michael Schiavo To Endorse Lamont Tomorrow
Michael Schiavo To Endorse Lamont Tomorrow

Michael Schiavo, Terri Schiavo's ex-husband who currently runs TerriPAC, is set to endorse Ned Lamont tomorrow at a press conference in Connecticut. According to their website, TerriPAC's mission is "to educate voters on where their elected officials stood when they had a choice between individual freedom and personal privacy and overreaching government action."

Lamont and Schiavo

Michael Schiavo, the former husband of Terri, is headed to Connecticut to stump for Ned Lamont on Friday, accompanied by doctors and lawyers. Mr. Lamont says his opposition to Senator Joseph I. Lieberman had a lot to do with the senator’s support to allow the federal court to consider keeping her on a feeding tube.

(“There ought to be a huge distance between my hospital room and the federal government,” Mr. Lamont says.)

And Michael Schiavo is backing other candidates this year with his political action committee to counter the politicians he says made a “mockery” of “fundamental freedoms.”

1. Good, but I don't know how much good this does.
Schiavo issue is a lightning rod for fundie attacks.
We'll have to see how this plays out.

2. That's my reaction too
Is he a resident of Connecticut?

This could seriously backfire.

3. how could this backfire?
the fundies are not going to vote for lamont anyway - those of us who feel the government should stay out of our medical decisions will be happy with this endorsement. Loserman voted to interfere - Lamont says he would not - I like Ned's position better - Mr Schiavo can't hurt here

4. They can poison the political rhetoric of the campaign
Something that they are very, very good at doing.
Of course, this could backfire on the fundies as well.

5. Sure, because nothing can be more damaging to Lamont
than reminding voters that the Republican Congress (and their Democratic enablers like Joementum) are insane nutjobs. :sarcasm:

7. Yeah i guess you are right
What could possibly go wrong with bringing in a controversial out-of-stater who's done little of note outside of his involvement in his wives death.

8. I remember a poll when Congress and * were intervening
in the Terri Schiavo fiasco, and it was overwhelming in favor of keeping the Government OUT of one's personal, medical business. In fact, IMHO, that was the beginning of the American People opening their eyes to this insanity of the * regime.

I don't see as backfiring at all. People want to have control over their lives...they don't the government or a bunch of hypocritical fundies interfering.

This is the time to ATTACK the fundies on their hypocrisy.

20. RW Fundies don't vote Democrat
If you're suggesting that fundie attacks might influence moderates, well that's another thing. Of course, we could attack right back, the question is, will we?

6. Well, I wasn't sure about this guy Lamont, but...
if Michael Schiavo says he's okay then I'll vote for him! I like Lamont, and have nothing against Schiavo, I'm just wondering why this is the kind of thing that needs a press conference.

Not her ex-husband! They were never divorced!
Her widower.

I'm emailing them, because i think it's important -- his whole POINT was that he stayed married when he didn't have to, to protect her wishes.

9. "Ex-husband"?
Last I checked, they were still legally married when she died. Nice bit of spin, there.

11. I welcome this endorsement as a Lamont CT supporter
Michael Schiavo is absolutely correct to do this. I think the people of Connecticut will respond by voting in large numbers to replace JOe with Ned as our next Connecticut Senator.

13. This Looks Like A Wash To Me
While most people know that the correct decision was made, Michael Schiavo is still a little toxic (fairly or unfairly) with most people just wanting to put this spectacle in our past. The positives and negatives cancel one another out.

18. And what polling gives you this insight?
The only people wanting to "put this spectacle in the past" seem to be the idiot Republicans that voted for that crap in the first place. Not exactly their finest hour.

19. Bush/Congress involvement in the Terri Schiavo
issue was the turning point, IMO, for many moderate voters. It was a wake up call to them about what the fundies and neocons were doing to this country. It was an issue they could relate to directly - not at all a complicated issue for them but a family decision that the govt had no business in.

23. yes, Michael will be a reminder of the Pugs total idioty in this matter.
thinking back I still can't believe all that went down in that sad story.
unfriggenbelievable.

bush and jeb trotting about at a moments notice, the whatshisface the catkiller giving medical advice from a videotape, the parents (oh my, what a couple of freaks - poor Terry), the 'protests', the jesus on a trailer hitch.

It's a bleedin' comedy now. Humor = tragedy + time.

wow, I'll bet the world was rolling over in uncontrollable laughter at the handling of it all.
