Poll question: How much of a threat is Hezbollah to Israel's existence ? |
|
From no threat at all to a critical threat to Israel's survival.

Zero threat to the nation's existence
unless, of course, Israel keeps showing themselves for the fascists they are and alienates what's left of the civilized world.

|
But let Israel keep up the thuggish behavior and one day they might have created a monster they can't dominate.

They are a medium danger now, they have proven this by capturing soldiers and killing civilians. There hate for Israel and Jews could definately make them a much bigger threat 5-10 yrs down the line when Syria or Iran give them something a little bigger to lob at Israel though...I think that is the whole point here.

6. Mainly a threat because of the Israeli response. |
|
Much like Al-Queda isn't a threat to the USA's existence of itself, the idiotic response to it has enflamed the Arab world and shown our weakness. The same is true of Israel v Hezbullah. Whatever chance Israel had of negotiating a long term accomodation with it's neighbors is now in the toilet. Any government in the region that tries a "moderate" approach to Israel will endanger it's own existence at the hands of it's own people.
Both Al-Queda and Hezbullah couldn't have asked to a better response to their provocations.

How is Al Qaeda not a threat to US existence? They may not have WMD to take out huge segments of the population yet, but given time I am sure they would try. I was against the war in Iraq, but I think some here have just become completely pacifist in every way and that isn't how the real world operates..

14. How is Al Qaeda a threat to US EXISTENCE???? |
|
I think some here have just become loony Kool Aid drinkers at the "fear, fear, fear, terror, terror, terror" propaganda booth.
There is NO WAY ON EARTH Al Qaeda could end the United States as an entity. NO WAY. They could do us great harm and kill a lot of us, but never put us out of existence. If you believe otherwise, you are beyond reason.

Hezbollah, AFAIK, have not been blowing up buses and Israeli establishments. I cannot find more than a dozen or so Israeli casualties, most of them military, attributed to Hezbollah before the current escalation in the past five years.
But please, anyone, if I'm wrong please correct me, with sources.

And should they be dismantled and disarmed?
And to answer your poll question: I think Hezbollah is a threat to Israel's existance, but I do not feel that I have enough information or understanding to quantify how much of a threat.

21. I'm still trying to figure out the real connection between |
|
Hezbollah and Syria and Iran. No, I'm not talking about those countries providing them with weapons, that's a given. But I want to know why. If Iran, for example, really wants Israel wiped off the map, why aren't they supplying Hezbollah with planes so they can bomb? Or nukes?
I'm wondering if maybe the reason is twofold:
1. They are playing a game of chicken. They know if they gave Hezbollah nukes, then Israel would retaliate against them, and they're not ready for that. So they give Hezbollah just enough to keep Israel busy and distracted.
2. They really don't want Israel destroyed. It's too good a whipping boy. Let's face it, if the people of your country are dissatisfied with your regime, what better way to keep THEM busy and distracted than to heat up the ever simmering war?
Any other ideas?

Turkey is a secular government, and would be harmed financially if this pipeline is laid. You'd think if Bushco were really interested in secular democracies being promoted in the ME, they'd figure out some sort of deal with the Turks to make up for the lost revenue.

24. More an annoyance than a threat |
|
as far as the actual existence of Israel is concerned. I'm not saying that they don't threaten the lives of some individual Israelis, though they don't appear to pose much of a threat in that area either as far as I can tell from the actual fatality numbers.
That they may wish for Israel to disappear is immaterial. If you could be punished just for wanting something, I would have been arrested by the Secret Service long ago.
The greatest threat to Israel right now is Israel, IMHO.
