Morals and Ethics (Part One) |
|
Ok, here is a hypothetical question:
There is an asteroid/comet/other stellar object heading toward the Earth. It will hit within one year and there is no realistic way of stopping it. There are some plans in place for blowing it up/diverting it, but the odds are very, very slim tat they will work. When the object hits, it will wipe out all life on Earth (and in orbit/near orbit) and will ruin the planet so badly that even those inside shelters/caves will have no hope of surviving.
You are the President/UN Head/Whatever... what do you do? Do you tell the world, causing mass panic? Do you keep it secret and try the different plans....
What is the ethical thing to do?
:dilemma:

of the world, and try to come up with a plan, but the public should at least be told.. Who knows..maybe the "last year of earth" could finally be a peaceful one if we ALL are soon to perish :)

The moral thing to do would be to do everything you can to find a solution and let the people know one way or the other in enough time that they could make their peace, say goodbyes, whatever.
The ethical thing to do would be to continue to try to find a solution, notify the heads of allied and neutral nations so that they could prepare their people, then tell your people one way or the other in time for them to make peace, whatever.
Moral is the good/right thing to do. Ethical is the good/right thing to do within a job or profession.
