Rachel Maddow Interview

HUGE Rachel Maddow fan here! I think she is possibly the best host on Air America, and after reading this interview I think I know one reason why: FIVE hours of preparation, for a 2 hour show.

If you haven't heard her, she does the morning show (in my area, it's 7am to 9am) on Air America radio. She is whip-smart and her analysis of the news and daily events is positively brilliant. She's easy on the ears, too.

1. I concur...Rachel rules!!!

I lover her 2 hours on Air-America. Why is it on so late at night (in So Cal)???

She is one of the best AAR has in the lineup.

2. what's with those super annoying sound effects?

she presents very interesting material almost every day, but I find her radio presence very offputting

but, then, I liked Janeane, who was not nearly as well informed, and had a tendencey toward shrillness....that said, she was genuinely funny, and Rachel is strained when it comes to her attempts at jocosity

all a matter of taste, though, isn't it?

3. different strokes for different folks...

I think you're talking about the occasional Flintstones-esque "BOINK" sound effect. It only happens a couple of times each show, but I could see how some people would find it irritating.

Personally, I think it adds a nice touch of levity. Her show is pretty dense with information, so I don't mind a couple of split- seconds of comedy. It's worth it, for her analysis.

4. I listen every morning on the way to work. this is what bugs the CRAP

out of me:

when she does the news, she plays this WHOOSH!!!! sound between each story, ala FOX!

and the stuff on the intro to the right wing spin machine (the flintstone poink?), or whatever she calls it....while irritatingly rolling her rrrrrrrs (bewteen 22 and 28 after the hour every day) makes me put the mute on in anticipation

can't help it, but those things really really annoys the hell out of me.....I'll admit I'm overly sensitive to certain things, especially when they happen with clocklike regularity, which they do....it's too scripted for me

but, again, that's my own taste....I can't listen to Fat Ed for more than a few moments most of the time, unless he has a guest on, and I have trouble with Malloy, because he loses it so easily, and goes so far over the top, even though I empathize with most of what he does...I just don't think it plays very well to anyone who hasn't made up his/her mind

5. I agree with you about

hosts who rant. I really do like Malloy (for example) but sometimes it sounds like he's yelling at me... someone who probably agrees with him as much as anybody...

As far as the scripted aspect of the Maddow, I bet it helps make the show run smoother to have everything happen at consistent times.

I realize it's a matter of personal taste though, and we all like different things.

He's the best! Wish he was here in NYC with a five hour show, but he won' be brought here because he is too strong and the rw cabal that rules the airwaves won't allow it.

if forced wackiness keeps her in that slot, I'm a happy camper. She actually has some humorous ways of framing things, which I enjoy.
