List of countries to which US travel is banned ?
I am looking for a list of countries which Americans are not allowed to travel.

So far the only country I see for sure is Cuba. It is possible to travel to North Korea and Syria. I did find a list of "Travel Warnings" issued by the State Department but can't seem to find the "banned" list.

1. Well you "can" go to North Korea.
But they (NK) probably wont let you in.

But, I cannot verify for you at this time.

3. Not banned - surprisingly
Where to obtain a North Korean visa: There is no DPRK embassy in the United States. U.S. citizens and residents planning travel to North Korea must obtain DPRK visas in third countries. For information about entry requirements and restricted areas, contact the DPRK Mission to the United Nations in New York. Address inquiries to:

The Permanent Representative of the Democratic
People’s Republic of Korea to the United Nations

5. The son of The reverend Billy Graham has been going to
North Korea every year since 1998. He is not allowed to "preach" but instead delivers emergency food and medical supplies to orphanages throughout the country. I saw an interview with him on CNN (complete with video about two weeks ago). The curious thing about it is he denies that either the North Koreans or the US have ever requested he deliver any diplomatic messages back and forth. Seems like a contact such as this would be an excellent wy to start some kind of private
dialogue between the two countries. He also stated his transport plane has a very very narrow window thru which to fly in N Korean airspace,
and once there, is accompanied to the ground by fight planes....

4. You could try circumventing ...
other countries do fly to these places, you can fly to Cuba from Canada, for instance. But as other posters said, the country you want to go to may not let you in.

6. My question about a list is related to a discussion
I'm having with a co-worker who claims that there is a big list of countries to which travel is banned outright. Only Cuba fits that criteria as best I can tell.

I don't plan on going to N. Korea.

9. I've known folks that have gone to Cuba
Usually via Central America... They have not had a problem getting into Cuba. But, I don't know if they have tried to go in the past year or two.

10. Yes, you can still go to Cuba via Mexico
When you go... I went several times in the past few years...you take your passport, but it is not stamped in Cuba. They issue u a visa which they stamp, but there is no record on your passport that you visited Cuba. It is a wonderful place, by the way!

11. The people I know...
Have gone to Central & South America, as well as the Caribbean and Cuba. They said they felt safest in Cuba of all the countries.

And, these guys are not Cuban and not any sort of political activists or anything.

7. Please specify
Do you want a list of countries:

a) you are not allowed to go to, but where they would welcome you as a guest.

b) you are allowed to go to, but where they wouldn't let you in.

big difference.

8. i agree
I think Cuba is the only specifically prohibited country.

I know there are airports that you can't fly directly from/to the US (IIRC Lagos, Nigeria is one).
