FEMA Plan To Raise Condos Raising Eyebrows
(CBS 13) SACRAMENTO FEMA is introducing a surprising solution to some flooding problems that just won't leave people alone at the Woodside condominium complex in Sacramento.
Jeff Macedo gave us a tour of this home at Woodside that's been in various stages of repair for nearly six months -- ever since the 100 years flood hit. But now that his home is almost finished being fixed, he's now facing a bigger problem. FEMA wants to raise Jeff's building eight feet in the air and put it on stilts. The cost of the project would be $2.6 million and residents would have to pay for the rest.
Jeff says that the project would not only cost him more money but he says he'd have to live in limbo again.
FEMA is giving residents three months to decide if they want to begin the project; after that, the deal's off, they say.
