Rice plans serious piano recital at ASEAN meeting - for real

http://today.reuters.com/news/newsArticle.aspx?type=topNews&storyID=2006-07-27T094512Z_01_N26232818_RTRUKOC_0_US-ASEAN-RICE-PIANO.xml&archived=False

In keeping with her mood and to reflect the world crises she tackles daily, U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice plans to play a somber piece of music to her Asian colleagues in Malaysia this week.

The Association of South East Asian Nations has a tradition of ministers performing usually silly skits at a gala dinner, but Rice, an accomplished pianist, said she was more at ease playing a serious, reflective piece, possibly by the composer Brahms.

"It is not a time that is frivolous. It is a serious time. I will play something that is in accordance with my serious mood," said Rice, who had just attended a conference in Rome aimed at helping resolve the Lebanon crisis.

1. At least she gets it that it's not a "frivolous" time...maybe she could
let Chimpy in on her epiphany.

3. yeah and she kinda sucks and playing too
I go to IU school of music and trust me, Menahem pressler could wipe the floor with her and most of his students. So tired of people with mediocre talent taking advantage of us because they are center stage in the world. All the Condis KFeds and Paris's need to get out our lives now!!!

5. Bi!ch! If she were serious she would have declined ANY performance.
People are dead, injured, homeless, without food and water and no place to run where they aren't bombed again.

Condoho should just go quietly and buy some more of those ugly ass shoes. Ferragamos aren't pretty.

6. She can shop for shoes, she can play a piana (Jimmy derante)
but she ain't worth a damn as SOS.

Big fat deal! Until she can belt out some good solid boogie woogie, she can rot in hell for all I care.

Remember it's one thing to play a piano, it's another thing to PLAY a piano. And musican worth their salt will tell you that.

7. Well, she's been a total bust at diplomacy
so she's retreating to that pie-anny stool to do the one thing she's actually been reported to be good at, classical piano.

She's a bit out of practice, though. I understand her talents in the White House have been restricted to Protestant hymns.

Playing while the lifeboats of peace leave with far too many people aboard?

14. The Secretary of State decides to play Piano? Al kaeda must love this...
At a time when the world seems to be coming apart, the Bush administration thinks this should be a statement in itself coming from the good ole USA.

"Fuckem, let Condi play the piano for them", you know the Bush crowd has got to love this...

15. Generally, I just accept the snippet provided and don't check the link.
This time, her remark was so odd that I clicked the link to see if she actually said that.

Jaw. Hit. Floor.

Is she doing *'s drugs? Doing * must have made her just as mad as he is. These people have lost their minds.

19. I don't recall giving concerts as being part of the job description of a
Secretary of State. Perhaps she needs to do her real job and stop the stalling. It is not her job to make war.
