Marines reluctant to accept 'Hadji Girl' song proceeds for MWR

By Jeff Schogol, Stars and Stripes
Pacific edition, Friday, July 28, 2006

Music producers want to give a large part of the proceeds from sales of a controversial song to the Marines, but a Marine Corps spokesman said the Corps may not be able to take the money.

Alan Grossman, of Hit Music Inc., said the song “Hadji Girl” can be downloaded for $1.99 at: www.hadjigirlsong.com.

Of the proceeds, 99 cents per every purchase is earmarked to support Morale, Welfare and Recreation facilities for U.S. troops overseas.

The song outraged a Muslim- American advocacy group after a video posted on the Internet showed Marine Cpl. Josh Belile singing about falling in love with an Iraqi girl, but then being forced to kill her family after they attack him. In one line, Belile sings about using the girl’s sister as a human shield.

1. I'd suggest they give the money to the 15 year old girl they raped
but they killed that particular "Hadji girl" and her entire family.

Honestly I think the person who wrote that pathetic song should be brought up on war crimes.

3. the word "Hadji", at least where I'm from, is the same as "n*gger"
applied to A-rabbs, of course...

15. A Hadji is someone who has made the Hajj
The Hajj is the pilgrimage to Mecca that Muslims are required to make at least once in their lives. A hajji (male) or hajjah (female) is someone who has made the Hajj and thereby shown their devotion to Allah.

8. Soldiers don't have a right to freedom of speech
Regardless, that's not what this is about. This is about making money off of a song based on a racial slur directed at the people we're supposed to be liberating. It's pathetic and dangerous.

10. you are correct
that is actually a good point. soldiers (and marines) do not have a right ot free speech

good point. i failed to address that

fwiw, the military DID do an investigation and found no violation of the UCMJ though

the UCMJ does limit speech in many respect for armed forces members, but this case was not a violation

i agree that the military should not accept money off of this song

i think the song was excellent satire and a valid way for a marine to blow off steam

satire is never pretty, or to quote steve martin "comedy is not pretty"

12. No crime was committed
The Marine who wrote this, committed no crime he just had no class, and another closet bigot has stepped out into the light.

14. is the reason
is the reason he is assumed a bigot by you because he used the term "hadji?" or because of the other textual aspects of the song?

9. The Marines didn't rape that girl, The Army did
Unfortunately the Marine who came up with the song is guilty of nothing but having no class, and at least now there's another racist out in the open.

Besides, it wasn't the Marines who raped and killed that girl and murdered her family it was the Army.

The proceeds should go to the people of Haditha, that's the crime the Marines committed, the murder of 24 Iraqis, men, women, and children.

11. i see no reason
to assume he's a racist because of this song, any more than i assume that trey parker and matt stone (who originated the dirka dirka thang) are racists

gallow humour and such is a part of war, and a part of a lot of professions, like ER doctors, military surgeons (ever see MASH?) etc.

it;'s hardly evidence the guy is racist

imo of course

13. Thanks for the clarification
But IMO it doesn't matter which branch did it, because as far as the Iraqis are concerned America raped and killed her. They also don't care who wrote that racist song that's apparently selling like hotcakes to chickenhawk Americans.

2. I wonder: Did Trey Parker and Matt Stone give permission
for any of the parties involved to use the lyric: ‘dirka dirka Mohammed Jihad,’”

I smell copyright lawsuit.

4. Branches of the military have enough
sources of income for MWR and citizens donate millions every year to USO. I don't believe they need to accept any of this money. Maybe they can get limbaugh to sell it to his Club Gitmo crowd.

17. It would be akin to accepting a donation
from the klan on the condition the confederate flag were displayed in the mess hall.
