Does This Anti-Lieberman Ad (Links him to Nazis) Go Too Far?
Ad tries try to tie Lieberman to Nazis in the military

RAW STORY
Published: Friday July 28, 2006

A group that touts itself as an organization of liberal bloggers has produced an ad that attempts to link the incumbency of Senator Joseph Lieberman (D-CT) to a rise in neo-Nazi activity in the US military.

The group, ImpeachPAC, calls it "the progressive blogosphere's first TV ad in the closely-watched Democratic primary battle between incumbent Senator Joe Lieberman and his progressive challenger, Ned Lamont."

No other liberal bloggers or groups have endorsed the ad.

The ad relies heavily on a report by the Southern Poverty Law Center, that quotes a Pentagon investigator as saying, "Recruiters are knowingly allowing neo-Nazis and white supremacists to join the armed forces, and commanders don't remove them from the military even after we positively identify them as extremists or gang members."

2. There are a million reasons to vote for Lamont
I don't think this is one of them.

3. I don't think it succeeds in tying the two
After watching it have to say it targets Bush. But doesn't link Lieberman. Using just the photo I don't think will have any effect. Particularly since it is well known that Joe is very devout in his Judaism and support of Israel.

I suspect this will have no effect on the primary and cost Lamont votes in the general election.

But I'll just call them fascist leaning politicians and hacks, in and around the pentagon, senate, congress, highest federal courts and White House.

10. But are they really Dems or freepers posing as Dems?
Although we can find many things Nazi like among the neo-cons, it's not true for Dems. Even the most moderate among us don't have anything in common with Nazis or fascists. They are projecting like they always do by accusing us of what they are guilty of. It smacks of a neo-con smear job.

12. It's not Lamont's people.
I'll bet its freepers or even Lieberman supporters (though I don't think he himself would approve of it).

11. are we sure that it is liberal bloggers who produced that ad?
or Joe's supporters trying to blame them for such a stupid ad to make people sympathize with Lieberman? Of course it's a stupid ad and one we don't need to use to make our case.

14. Welcome to keyboard warrior politics: you asked for it!

Every time someone made a little disingenuous argument here and there about Lieberman, Hillary Clinton, the DLC, or any other person they claimed was a DINO, they polluted the climate just a little more to this point. Congratulations, you got your wish, this is how it is for a while I guess. Enjoy your little Nazi ad that sprung out of it and hope someone doesn't make one about your candidate.

15. Entirely ineffective
Edited on Fri Jul-28-06 06:20 PM by symbolman
and I know first hand what happens when you use the Nazi word.. got me all over Drudge, altho he was stupid enough not to know that the one I made was not connected with the MoveOn Bush in 30 seconds contest..

this ad doesn't work.. wish Bob would come to me if he needs stuff done, alas those that have been very effective get left out a lot of times..

Paint Lieberman as an asskisser to Bush, that's all you need to do, simple..

PUSH the fact that he'll run as basically a Republican if he can't get in any other way..
