97. Yes, and people want us to withdraw in 1 year from Iraq |
|
Murtha told us last December that Iraq was going down into a civil war that it would be an impossible job for our soldiers to be caught up in a civil war, did we listen, NO, of course, not because we are too busy listening to people like "I had 5 deferments" and I say stay the course.

Do you believe President Bush's actions justify impeachment? - 282312 responses
87.0% Yes, between the secret spying, the deceptions leading to war and more, there is plenty to justify putting him on trial.
04.3% No, like any president, he has made a few missteps, but nothing approaching "high crimes and misdemeanors."
07.2% No, the man has done absolutely nothing wrong. Impeachment would just be a political lynching.
01.8% I don't know.
Not a scientific survey.

132. I believe that Bush has a powerful group of supporters |
|
but they are tiny, I do not believe that he won the 2000 election and I also don't believe that he won in 2004. I believe that the majority of the US people do not want our continued involvement in Iraq and I also believe that the majority of the American people want a nation of laws and want accountability for this administration.

83. Yes, traditional pollsters have conducted surveys, but not enough |
|
Edited on Sat Jul-29-06 04:34 AM by Lasher
In a recent Zogby poll, Americans were asked what would restore their trust in government and the No. 1 reply was "personnel changes/impeachment." As David Swanson of impeachpac.org notes, polls by Ipsos, Zogby and American Research Group have found support between 43 percent and 53 percent. And if it's Democrats, the numbers shoot up to 80-90 percent, with a consistent majority of Independents supporting impeachment. http://www.alternet.org/story/38042/Here is a link to a web site that lists all the impeachment polls that have been conducted so far: http://www.democrats.com/bush-impeachment-pollsEdit HTML tags

Over a quarter million votes and 87 percent of the survey participants are FOR impeachment.
The on-line survey may be an unscientific sampling, but it looks like nearly a quarter-million Americans think that the lying and spying are considerably more serious grounds for impeaching a President than telling fibs about romps with an intern.

Fineman calling specter the brilliant chairman of the judiciary committee who will be asking 'tough' questions of alito!?!?!?!
Eight months later - I'm still waiting for the brilliance 2 kick in.
"....If you thought the Samuel Alito hearings were going to be contentious, wait till you see them now. Sen. Arlen Specter, the prickly but brilliant chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, has said that the issue of warrant-less spying by the NSA — and the larger question of the reach of the president’s wartime powers — is now fair game for the Alito hearings. Alito is going to try to beg off but won’t be allowed to. And members who might have been afraid to vote against Alito on the abortion issue might now have another, politically less risky, reason to do so...."

49. It would take a fool to impeach W before Cheney dies. |
|
Obviously this is not a scientific poll. A truly random poll of about 800 people can give us a better picture of how Americans feel than a voluntary poll on a website that is at least sympathetic to democrats.
DU could run a poll and just about 100% of us would want to kick him out, but that too would not be a true picture of America.
I for one, absolutely do not want W to get impeached, I think only a true idiot would want that. Such an action would leave us with another Dick in the Whitehouse. Now, if Cheney finally keels over from the overdue heart attack, then we can talk.

Thus the problem of labeling the media as being biased in one way or another. It is clear to me that Fox is biased, most of Clear Channel is biased, both to the right. We all have to admit to the bias of the NY Times. The LA Times was openly bent toward the left until their recent re-org. Now they look to be moving right.
I suspect that MSNBC, et al, are likely much more objective than either the left or right believes.

Post this link on every blog. Google "democratic Club" in your state and send to the president of every single one. ask them to forward to their members.
Send to local union heads. MoveOn, DFA, PDA groups in your area. Sierra Club. women's groups. you name it.
Got an Air America affiliate or other liberal radio station? Email the host and ask to have a link for this impeachment poll posted at their site.
Email it to your county Democratic Party chair. Also Green Party, Peace & Freedom Party, & Libertarian Party candidates and officers.
Send to every Democrat in public office and every Democrat running for public office. Ask them to forward it to their supporters.
I'll bet we top two million by the morning!

89. Why a Dec 2005 Fineman article, and no real action since then? |
|
Clearly Fineman hit upon the danger to this democracy in December of 2005, and yet there has been no effective opposition to authoritarians inhabiting the White House and the NeoCon Cabal in the Pentagon.
We just do not have protectors of the Constitution holding office in Washington, D.C. And as power has been grabbed and consolidated within an imperial White House Administration, our ability to turn things around grows dimmer with each passing day.
We need to hold responsible those who "enabled" this group of criminals. These is no other way to begin to build an effective opposition that will take back our country from these corrupt actors that do not deserve a place in any political party.
I believe it will take Dems, Repubs and Independents TOGETHER to stop this train wreck, and there is surely common ground to meet upon when it comes to saving our country. However, this coming together will not occur until they sense that the "people who are votering" are fed up, and not going to take it any more. We need to look no further than Mexico in their most recent presidential election to see what it will take to stand up to corruption at the ballot box. And until these politicians see that the same could result here, it will continue to be more of the same that we have already experienced.

So that means a lot more than 200,000 people support impeachment in this country. This poll is meaningless.
It's really depressing to see that people here are as inclined toward emotional irrationalism as the freepers. So much for that idea about us being the smart ones.
Well, enjoy your "exciting poll results." With 80% of Americans supporting impeachment, I'm sure it will only be a matter of weeks before Dick Cheney is president.

Only 10.4% think he shouldn't be impeached, with 7.3% thinking he's made mistakes, but hasn't commited "high crimes and misdemeanors" and 4.1% thinking he hasn't done anything wrong at all.
So now only 4.1% of Americans believe wholeheartedly in Bush. That spells "lunatric fringe" to me.

i think a general election should be held with only one issue on the ballot: should bush be impeached. if the results are yes, then congress will immediately begin the proceedings. if they do not, then everyone who refuses to abide by the publics decision, will be immediately recalled & a new election for their seat will be held. they will not impeach unless there are consequences for their refusal to do so.

What about all those freeper friendly polls that show a favorable opinion of a bush policy? We always say those aren't scientific and have no meaning, so why shouldn't the same thing apply to us?
I'm not sure how things get selected to be on the home page. I assume the admins have a say in it. If they do, I don't know why they'd put an online unscientific poll there. I've found this site to be extremely credible over the years, and things like this damage that credibility a little bit. Granted, it doesn't happen all that often!

Who says some other group isn't flooding the poll? Who says WE aren't flooding the poll? You know how many people visit this site? Think of all the lurkers.
But that's not the point. It doesn't take a "flood" to get wrong results in an unscientific poll. Only the people who see the poll and choose to respond to the poll get their answers logged. In this case the majority happened to be people who support impeachment. It's equally likely that this poll would have been 87% against impeachment on another day. It's not a valid random sample. It's bullshit.
Stop this idiocy.

Claiming that an unscientific poll is somehow scientific is what's silly. It doesn't matter what you say. You can pull out a calculator and do all sorts of complicated computations. You can buy a CRAY and have it crunch numbers for weeks on end, have it analyze the data, make all sorts of fancy graphs and charts, run an artificial intelligence simulator, be abducted by super intelligent aliens with superior anal probe technology than our own and ask them what they think of this poll...
The sample will still be invalid. It will still be meaningless.

I did not vote in this poll and I don't intend to vote in this poll. I never participate in these stupid online polls. They don't mean shit. All you people getting excited over this look like fools. That it made the home page also hurts the credibility of this site and hurts the rest of us who have more than 2 neurons.
How does having a feeling that you know how I voted in an unscientific online poll that means nothing negate the fact that the poll is an unscientific online poll that means nothing?

149. Hmmmmm. So you get excited about unscientific polls, eh? |
|
Seems to me that's rather irrational and even anti-intellectual. Kind of like espousing "truthiness." So... which option did you choose. Never mind, I think I know.
The poll is meaningless. And boolean is right, failing to understand that makes us look as intellectually crippled as the freepers.

137. Unscientific is meaningless. |

The Freepers used to use this sort of thing to influence public opinion. They'd "bomb" a poll, then some conservopundit would hold up the poll results as somehow meaningful. Because of the past tactics of Freepers, there are a lot of liberal online groups that go looking for polls like this to influence.
Even if this "bombing" practice weren't going on, it would still be pretty meaningless. A proper poll takes basic data about each respondent (geography, pay scale, gender, age, political proclivities, race, etc.), then weights each response based on what percentage of a given population that person represents. With these online polls, there is simply no way to measure how far off your poll results are from a proper national average. It's not just that these polls are off, it's that there is no way to find out how off they are. The results could be exactly the opposite of a scientific poll on the same subject, and you would never know, even with a large sample size such as this.

Do you believe President Bush's actions justify impeachment? Yes, between the secret spying, the deceptions leading to war and more, there is plenty to justify putting him on trial. 87% No, like any president, he has made a few missteps, but nothing approaching "high crimes and misdemeanors." 4.3% No, the man has done absolutely nothing wrong. Impeachment would just be a political lynching. 7.3% I don't know. 1.8%

As much as this makes everyone sqeal with delight, it really is unscientific. Majority? Maybe. 87%? Get real. The people voting on this are only the people who look for this sort of thing on the web. Period.
There are much bigger things going on to get things going in the right direction. Don't be distracted by this trival "push poll."

139. It's an online poll which basically means the number is very skewed |
|
Basically means the liberal websites outnumbered the conservative websites in overtaking the poll. People here have got to remember that a vast majority of people out there in this country do not use their computers for following politics and making electorial choices. Nor do they rush out and search for every poll out there where they feel their vote actually has some influence.
This poll is a joke and why it's on the home page of DU is beyond me - the numbers are a false reality

4.3% write his crimes off as "missteps". Yeah, like deliberately wiretapping us all without warrants is nothing more than an "oops!"
7.2% terminally misinformed believe he's done "absolutely nothing wrong".
Even 0.01% "no" would be a shameful statement about this country's citizens. And this poll show's 11.5% of us are morans.
