Vietnam has succeeded in disposing a bomb weighing 7 tons, the biggest bomb found in Indochina, local media reported Wednesday.

Local army engineers on Tuesday took 5 tons of explosive out of the bomb dropped by the U.S. army in central Binh Dinh province in the Vietnam War, Young People newspaper said.

In 2004, a 5.5-ton bomb was found in central highlands Gia Lai province.

According to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund of the United States, during the war from 1965 to 1975, the U.S. Armed Forces deployed more than 15 million tons of bombs, mines, artillery shells and other ordnance in the country, in which 10 percent did not detonate as designed.
