Are we really so stupid?? (Adventures in reading)

I've had exciting adventures this summer with my local public library. When Kevin Phillips's American Theocracy was published, I thought, hmmm, sounds interesting. I went to the library to get it -- no copies. After it hit the best seller list and was reviewed widely, we finally got a few. I'm on the waiting list now, 4 of 4.

Then John Dean's book came out. Off I went again -- no copies. Okay. I had learned the drill. Wait awhile, wait for the buzz. Well, first the library BOUGHT TWO WHOLE AUDIO COPIES. oooh. So I sweetly asked my branch librarian when we would get copies to actually READ. She said, hmm, must be a mistake. Wait a few weeks. I did. Well, the library ordered TWO WHOLE PRINTED COPIES. (This is a county-wide system serving more than 250,000 people.) I am on the wait list now, second in a line of two.

Then like a fool I checked to see how many copies of Godless we had-- the system has TWENTY COPIES. THE WAITING LIST IS 51 PEOPLE LONG. :puke:

Okay, two reasoned arguments and one screaming harpy (who apparently thinks plagiarism is a Christian activity) -- who is EVERYONE reading??? We are so pathetic. :eyes:

I actually live in a county that Kerry carried easily in 2004, which is why this really creeps me out.

6. Everytime I read something like this about Ohio, I think of your

political situation. One of these days, sooner rather than later, there will be an investigation by the Justice dept. of all the crap that's been going on there since the 2000 election, and probably a long time before that. Somehow, Blackwell will get his. Hang in there!

My bookstore has had ONE copy of that woman's book, and it still hasn't sold.
