1. exerpt...
I know that mine is but one voice among many in the blogosphere snarling "What a dickhead!" after watching W's performance at the joint Bush/Blair press conference today, but...really...what a dickhead!

The White House has not radiated such sheer stupidity since the Spanish-American war, when President William McKinley declared that he had to invade the Philippines to bring "Christianity" to that nation -- despite the fact that Christianity had been in place for centuries.

In an exactly similar vein, W defends the Israeli invasion of Lebanon as a measure to bring "democracy." Here's a newsflash, dummy: Lebanon is, or was, a democracy. An imperfect one, to be sure, but that cultured land was nevertheless well on its way toward re-establishing itself as "the Paris of Orient."

Where's the 'bomshell' part? Good rant though

2. He actually said that?
Sheesh. Well, I guess he figured that the same load of bull worked for him, when all of his other reasons for invading Iraq fell through.

4. Good question: did he really say that?
Here's the transcript of the president's comment:

http://www.prnewswire.com/cgi-bin/stories.pl?ACCT=104&STORY=/www/story/07-28-2006/0004406012&EDATE=

I don't think he said it. It would have been fun if he did...

6. Well, he did, sort of:
"In Lebanon, Hezbollah and
its Iranian and Syrian sponsors are willing to kill, and to use violence to
stop the spread of peace and democracy"

Hezbollah is trying to stop the spread of peace and democracy in Lebanon. Which evidently Israel is spreading.

5. This Fukstick Ruins The Concept Of democracy Every Time...
...he opens his pie hole.

These are some of the most anti-democratic bunch we've ever produced in this country. Joe McCarthy would be proud. The concept of empowering ALL the people on an equal level is not even on their radar. When this term is thrown around by this regime it means more repression and violence to those who "aren't allowing democracy" to flourish.

While I don't approve of Hamas or Hezzbolah in most forms, I do recognize the fact they've won their power through elections and do have mass popular support and influence in the reason. There's no way the IDF can bomb them out of existance as much as our military can't search and destroy them out of Baghadad. The more its done the stronger these groups get.

This shithead is an embarassment every time he steps before a microphone. Many times I'll try to make humor of it...laugh at how stupid the screw looks or how awkward he speaks...but then I realize the power this shit controls and I need massive sedation.

Cheers...

11. This was the bombshell
The DU poster who made reference to a "Bombshell" should perhaps have pointed to a specific story on my site. I believe the reference is not to the most recent post but to a previous one, which bears a Friday, 8:58 a.m. timestamp.

The "bombshell" was provided by Daniel Hopsicker, whose latest story deserves much more attention. In a nutshell, he has connected a captured jet carrying 5.5 tons of cocaine to a facility owned by one Richard Rainwater, a close financial partner to George W. Bush.

To my mind, that story justifies such a description.

"One may also fairly conclude that the Bushes are blessed and protected beyond reason by those portions of the public’s brain that have turned to mush. What other explanation but public stupidity explains the denouement of the Texas Rangers deal? As everyone knows, George W. used $600,000 from the Harken stock sale to buy a tiny slice of the Texas Rangers; and when the Rangers were sold last year for $250 million, the second-largest amount ever paid for a baseball team, George W. emerged with more than $14.9 million. What had made the ball club so valuable was a gift from the public — a $200 million stadium mostly paid for by a sales tax that the citizens of Arlington, Texas, had overwhelmingly voted to assume.

"Incredible. Ordinary folks — most of whom probably have a hard time meeting their mortgage payments — dug into their pockets to make George W. a rich man. But wait. It’s worse than that. Forget George W. for a moment. His reward was penny-ante compared to what some of his fellow owners got — men like Richard E. Rainwater, the mastermind of it all, the guy who allowed George W. to buy into the Rangers in the first place. Rainwater, rated by Fortune magazine as one of the 400 richest men in America, is the sorcerer who devised the investment strategy that elevated the Bass family from millionaires in the 1970s to billionaires in the 1990s. He probably owns the U.S. Treasury. And yet Texans are paying a sales tax to make him richer? Unbelievable."

Columbia/HCA is a partnership of financier Richard Rainwater of Ft.Worth and lawyer Richard Scott. Scott was recently terminated by Darla Moore, the wife of Richard Rainwater, according to Fortune Magazine.

The new CEO in place of Richard Scott is Thomas Frist, the former head of Hospital Corporation of America.

Rainwater also owns a large stake in Magellan Health Care which controls Charter Medical. Magellan, run by Darla Moore, is the largest network of psychiatric hospitals in the country. They are becoming more and more involved in obtaining government money for services formerly not covered as health care.

16. I too commend you for your post. People in Arlington are idiots. For a
second time they voted themselves donors to corporate greed in giving Jerry Jones and the Dallas Cowboys millions to build his new stadium. Dallas said, "Uh, no," to a deal that would have screwed tax payers and enriched the already wealthy Jones. But 55% of Arlington voters said yes in a special election where revenue will be raised with a half percent increase on sales tax, as well as a 5 percent increase in rental tax and a 2 percent increase in hotel occupancy tax.

Arlington residents are also having some of their homes confiscated under eminent domain to put up the sports venue. One resident said of the price the city was going to pay for his house, "...it wasn't enough to pay off his mortgage. 'They are just giving me pennies and telling me to get out,' he said." from: http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dws/news/localnews/cowboysstadium/stories/062505dnmetcondemn.415743ed.html
