Mel Gibson Case -- An Outrage
Posted Jul 29th 2006 2:35AM by Harvey Levin
Filed under: Celebrity Justice, H-Wood

Mel Gibson is garbage. What an awful person he is. True enough, I'm Jewish, so the grotesque remarks didn't please me none. And resisting arrest -- let me just say, I am privy to incontrovertible evidence that he did indeed try to bolt. It will come out, and it will shock you.

But even worse is that the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department has become a shill to celebrities. I knew this 11 years ago with Tony Danza, who beat up a photographer and stole his camera. The Sheriffs were ridiculous -- they merely asked him to return the camera, which Danza did after removing the film. That was just fine with the Sheriffs.

Well, it's gotten a lot worse. In the Mel Gibson case, I called the lieutenant who was on duty Friday, who told me that Gibson's arrest was "without incident." And I asked her about the anti-Semitic comments around mid-day. She said, in the phoniest of ways, "Oh, I'm just sure that's not the case." It was such a lying comment -- I just felt it.

Well, turns out that this time I was right on target. The lieutenant who gave me the bogus statement is the same person who told the arresting Deputy to 86 the truth and create a bullshit explanation for what went down.

1. Well you know...
It helps to have a "rabbi" like Mel, when it comes time to go looking for a consulting job on a cop movie.

4. Aww the cruelty of time...
if you live long enough, more and more is revealed about people around you. Quite often, it isn't pretty. Not at all.

5. What you should be paying attention to, is how the sheriff's department
responded. Anyone who is part of the cover-up should be fired, or should turn in the higher up that made them cover-up. This is the kind of double standard that is killing us ordinary folk in the local municipalities.

8. Ahem...
Do you not think it a bit presumptious of you to tell me what I should be paying attention to? :eyes: The double standard in Hollywood has gone on for years, with the glorification of celebrity. Just as in Washington-- especially under the current administration-- the wealthy and politically connected are "all that matter." This story is not new and nor will it be corrected over night as a result of this incident.

Far more poignant to me is the capacity for people to lose their promise over time in their lives due to alcohol, drugs and stupidity. It is not something any of us are necessarily immune to, but it is sad to see it play out over time.

11. Oh, I think there is quite a few angles to look at that are tragic.
The alcoholism is only one. And I do see something here that is new.

The double-standard for Hollywood is a hit or miss these days because of the political changes that have taken place in the last ten years. People have been taking sides in a way that resembles the McCarthy era. Early in the Clinton years, Hollywood was again targeted, only this time as a den of Liberal sinfulness -- except for those who embraced conservative values. Mel Gibson, Bruce Willis, Arnold, Fred wotisname in Congress, they've all benefitted from coming out right. So, now Mel, who was becoming an icon for the right, has crossed the line. Now he has to face punishment from his own lecture book. So there you have one new issue. He should be judged by his own strict values.

This isn't just about Hollywood celebrity favoritism. This is about whether we as ordinary citizens are willing to put up with double-standards anymore. I think we need to look into why Mel would say, "I own Malibu." Why did he think that would work? We need to find out why there isn't a crime against well-connected people who threaten to use their power to quiet public servants. It's all an endemic problem, and if we don't clean it up now, we're just going to keep repeating the same mistake.

Sorry if you think that's presumptious. Just pretend I'm not writing directly to you. I'm just thinking out loud. I do that a lot.

Yes.. I agree that the celebrity arrogance/favoratism aspects are important... While Gibson reaped some benefit already, I have a feeling he is about to experience the limits to this--given the very stupid things he said while drunk. I have no way of knowing to what degree his statements reflect his true beliefs. As nasty as his comments were, I've certainly seen the influence alcohol can have on otherwise decent people, so I reserve judgement as to how representative those statements may be to the real man. Regardless, he's got a major problem. He is going to self-destruct if he doesn't get help...

9. I want to make a political bisexual porno called "Penis of The Christ."
Edited on Sat Jul-29-06 05:23 PM by IanDB1
In this movie, Jesus, of course, would be very horny and very bisexual-- and played by an Aboriginal Australian in traditional tribal dress. Jesus would speak all kinds of loving Biblical stuff-- as well as lines from songs by Midnight Oil.

Instead of riding on a donkey, Jesus would ride in the pouch of a giant Kangaroo.

All the Roman soldiers would be named Bruce, and their helmets would have little fishing corks hanging from them.

The Roman Soldiers would all speak in Australian accents and say "G'day Mate" and stuff like that a lot.

Pontius Pilate would be dressed like Mad Max, and constantly spout lame-ass lines that Mel Gibson spoke in his movies like the Lethal Weapon series.

Oh, and Pontius Pilate would fuck a black man named Danius Gloverus.

And, since it's a porno, there would have to be lots of sex, but that's not the important part. Doesn't even have to be hard-core. It just has to really piss-off the fundies, most especially Mel Gibson.
