Duh. I just figgered out why Corp Media want Hillary to run.
Simple. She's pro-war, pro-Israeli extremism. So, no matter what Puggie (McCain? Jeb?) she runs against, the scope of the debate will be safely contained. Neither the war nor US support for Israeli aggression will get any public exposure as a campaign issue. She may even be allowed to win in 2008 if they decide they need a Dem scapegoat to take the blame for Bush's mess, and the public will at most have heard a debate about how to conduct the war, not whether we should have done it & should be doing it at all. If neither side is heard to question the war, that serves to legitimize it.

1. She's whatever she needs to be to be the first woman president. There's
Hillary's position when she was first lady and then there's Hillary's position when she needs the backing of credit card companies, war profiteers, etc. She's flip back if she won, but see isn't going to win.

2. And the resulting muck-fight will make for a great big
ratings bonanza while the campaign is on. And... even better for them, no matter who wins (I'm still convinced Hillary can't win), a corporate friendly Republican or quasi-Republican will be in office to keep the status quo. Super!

:sarcasm:

3. right. That's the purpose of the DLC
to dampen the democratic zeal against tyranny with republican lite values from within.

you just NOW figured that out?

4. She's also a pro-globalization neo-liberal. Not everything is
about war. If haven't read "The Washington Concensus", you don't understand.

5. As a novice to politics
I'm still learning about this dynamic, too. Not only the content of your OP, but the contributions of the other posters on this thread. Thanks for drawing attention to the big picture. Sometimes I get so caught up in the daily barrage, I forget the big picture. It's akin to a magician's slight-of-hand technique.

7. Also,
Hilary has some messed up plans regarding vitamins and supplements. She and Durgan are trying to get legislation through congress that might put a halt to getting anything you need from the health food store. It's one thing to ban Ephedra, but it's quite another to make it difficult or extremely costly just to get Vit C or Cranberry pills! I'm really ashamed of her!

9. The Clintons
The Clintons bet on America, the Bushes bet against us.
The Clintons bet on peace, the Bushes own oil, which goes up in war.
The Clintons brokered peace agreements, the Bushes own gold, which goes up in war.
Clinton told the world, "Bet on America," when he paid down Reagan's deabt.
Bush borrows from others, because nobody wants to bet on a loser.
Clinton prevented terrorist attacks, Bush creates terror every day he's in office.
With Clinton, we had peace, a surplus, a Constitution and the world's respect.
What do we have now, besides 2574 dead soldiers?

11. Hillary was his wife
not to put too fine a point on it, but I don't consider spouses of other presidents responsible for their terms in office.
I think that's a bizarre thing about american politics, when spouses or widows of politicians are elected to their spouse's old office.
I mean, if I need a root canal, even though I'm glad if the dentist has a good relationship with his or her wife or husband, it does not necessarily mean the spouse would do the root canal on me the same way or as well.

12. You may be right. My guess was that the corp. media is propping her
up to run because she'll be so very easy to tear down (that scary, shrill, castrating Lady -- *gasp*). However, it is tricky to know what interests have what stake in Hillary running, and whether they support her to truly support her or if they support her because she makes a prime target.

15. I don't see our conjectures as mutually contradictory.
I do, however, think that the 2008 outcome will be determined by factors and forces that have little to do with democratic processes.

16. They want her to run because she is the most polarizing Dem that exists
The right wing media is salivating at the opportunity to say Clinton Clinton Clinton over and over and discuss her marriage and Bill and all things Clinton. She is probably the ONLY Dem who could run for President and lose in this present environment. They WANT her to be the Democratic candidate and they will do everything in their power to make her the candidate all the while proclaiming how "afraid" they are of a Hillary run.
