Weep or scream, CORRECTION: My apologies...I did NOT mean to
Edited on Sat Jul-29-06 05:00 PM by grannylib
have pics show up in the post!
Weep or scream Part Two now has pictures embedded in the post; I have made the Photobucket album public at the following link:

WARNIING: THESE ARE REAL, GRAPHIC IMAGES OF THE EFFECTS OF WAR. BLOOD AND MAIMED BODIES.

http://s19.photobucket.com/albums/b174/grannylib/

Hope this works...and again, sorry to anyone who was shocked by the images. I did NOT mean to have them appear in the post. I thought I was posting links to the URL for each individual picture.

1. I dunno
Maybe we need to see the pictures & be shocked by them - too much of this sanitized POV of missile heading into building, its just a video game view of war.

4. I agree that they should be seen, but I also want to be sensitive to those
who just can't view blood...
I hear you; my original post was about the flag-draped coffins and the efforts to suppress even those images...these are much more powerful in their honesty. I just didn't want to make anyone here ill.

Would love to shove them in the faces of those responsible, however, and those who support those responsible...

Too bad they cannot be forced to see THESE pictures since they do not seem to care as much for the lives of the people shown in these pictures...or whether or not the viewers of their displays are directly responsible for, or supportive of abortions.

Match them and trump them in the greusome pictures game.

26. Thanks, BrklynLiberal...I really don't want to be insensitive, but I do
feel that it's important to face the reality of W's war of choice.

He may have been too cowardly to go to war himself; I don't want to be such a coward that I can't do everything within MY power to insure that he is REMOVED from power!

9. This granny agrees. Time to quit
coddling the truth. Not good to send our children off to war without knowing the reality. They have to know sooner that later that it's not a video game or Schwartznegger movie.

10. This makes me angrier than I already was. When I see images like this
and then still Smirk** talking about how it was/still is the right thing to do I feel like I'm going to explode. Isn't there enough negative energy in the universe yet!

The Princess of Death still thinks it's just swell, the neocons still think it's just swell, the "Backwash" still thinks it's just swell - just disgusting.

I can't imagine seeing this everyday and feel bad for those who do and for those who are trying to treat those wounded so badly.

11. I can't imagine what life must be like for those who live with this
reality every day...whether it's our military personnel or the civilians living under conditions which create such havoc...

It's beyond heartbreaking.

12. This must be seen by everyone
This is war. This is what happens. This is what it looks like.

Now remind yourself that this carnage is the result of the lies told by the Bush Regime.

Bush lied. People died. It's not just a slogan.

13. I've seen it before. And wrote about it:
(I wrote this as an op-ed in March of 2003, but of course there were no newspapers that cared to run it. Perhaps it will have some meaning for you, as you ponder, for the last time until next year, the meaning of Memorial Day.)

Redstone
-----------------------------
As George W. Bush prepares to let slip the dog of war, I wonder if he, or indeed any significant percentage of the American people who profess support for an invasion of Iraq, truly understand what war is.

Of course, among any country’s population, there can only be a few who genuinely understand the nature of war. However, even those without direct experience can gain some understanding with only a small amount of reading and study (though only if they care to, and few Americans do).

This understanding is almost universally lacking among Americans today, primarily because of the way the 1991 Gulf War was presented. We were shown a war that resembled nothing more than it resembled a video game. No blood, no mud, no bodies, just an unending stream of video images of impersonal "smart" weapons homing in on seemingly empty structures, along with the admittedly impressive shots of rocket batteries sending their payloads arcing magnificently toward the horizon.

Mr. President, my fellow Americans: That is not what war really is, as much as the U.S. Government would like for you to believe so. War is not glory, nor is it an adventure, nor is it something to be entered into lightly.

This is what war is:

War is watching an eighteen-year-old boy calling for his mamma as he tries to stuff his guts back into his belly, just before he bleeds out and dies.

War is hearing a young mother wailing over the body of her dead baby girl as she shrieks at you, asking you why your people did this.

War is stumbling over a leg lying alone on the field, the laces of the boot on its foot still neatly tied.

War is a smell that you cannot ever adequately describe, nor ever forget.

War is the copper taste of old pennies in your mouth as the bullet fragments rip through your muscles and smack into the bones underneath like the whack of a ball-peen hammer, and you realize instantly that this is a bad one; the one you're not going to be able to walk away from.

War is body bags, lined up in neat rows by the cargo planes, every one of them connected to a grieving family at the end of the flight.

War is a nightmare shared by the families of those who die, and those who live out their lives so badly damaged that they sometimes wish they had been lucky enough to die.

War is death.

War is pain.

War is final, and, once started, the damage it causes cannot be undone.

War is not a game.

Mr. President, my fellow Americans: do you understand now?

25. Thanks for your support, BMUS! It was a tough choice, whether to do
this or not...but I really felt that insulating oneself from the reality is not going to get us anywhere.

I hope that if enough people are exposed to images such as these, the sheeple may wake up and realize what their support of the unelected imbecile is doing to our country and our world!

30. I hope so too.
The first Gulf "war" played like a video game and Americans were never exposed to what was done in their names.

We should make sure that this time their consciences don't get off that easy.

17. OK how do you get "THEM" to see the pics?
"If you really want to "support the troops" then you will be willing to see just what you are supporting". ??

I do not expect any right winged pro-war * supporters to voluntarily look at these pictures. I think if they did it might be a good ECT treatment but how do you get these people to view them?

Guilt? Dare? Dare to see the reality of what we are doing?

Pardon the free flow thought thing going here but I am trying to think of an answer and to get others to think of an answer also.

We need a marketing slogan.

These pictures should chase away all of those warm fuzzies they get when they read those fairy tales.

They call it patriotism, I call it nationalism, the God/Bush/War fan club scares the hell out of me.

20. I wish the people who so naively
wear their red shirts on Fridays and have yellow bumper stickers on their cars would take a look at what these pictures show. At first I was wondering what war these were from... Iraq? Lebanon? Does it really matter? There is always another way to solve human problems besides deadly force. The leaders of our country do not have diplomatic skills.

22. Maybe we can put them in nice envelops and address them to
those who "support the troops" and leave them on the windshield of their car with a little note saying we want them to see what they are really rallying for.

And then plead for them to join us in trying to get our heroes back home.

23. grannylib, as one granny to another
those images must be shown. Those who mindlessly cheer this carnage, without having any idea of the horrors they are cheering, need to see them. You are trying to shock a complaisant nation into action, and into demanding that the bloodshed must stop.

I sympathize with, and understand your actions. What if those mangled, maimed bodies were our loved ones, instead of people half a world away> Our outrage would be colossal. You are doing right by sharing the reality of what war means to innocent men, women, and children. When these pictures can be viewed without revulsion, then we will know that we have lost our humanity.

civilians. These ARE our troops...suffering grievously for lies told by those who were too cowardly to go to war themselves.

I just can't sit by any more and do nothing.

Thanks for supporting the idea that they need to be seen. I want a better world for your grandchildren and mine, and for all people everywhere!
