To kill an infidel is not murder it is the path heaven
I am watching Kingdom of Heaven and that is the mantra the warriors hear upon entering the Pilgrim camp. Hard to find something more relevent to today's news. The harsh, unforgiving Christianity depicted certainly is reminicent of our current Fundamentalists. The inability of religions to coexist also is familiar. Amazing how intervening centuries makes so little difference.

4. Here I thought this was going to be about Islamic extremists
Christianity's own extreme barbarians differ from their Islamic counterparts in only the most superficial ways.

Good post!

5. Both are medieval.
It's been claimed that this is 1427 years or so after the founding of Islam. Medieval, give or take a few hundred years. Mostly take.

I look forward to the Islamic Renaissance, but don't see it happening: by this time the groundwork had been laid in Europe, and Islam's going in the opposite direction. But it's a different context, innovations were being accepted and applied with little intellectual backlash. I don't know if the world can wait for the Islamic Enlightenment. They seem to think it happened 500 years ago. If so, we're in for a world of hurt.

6. Islam was the enlightened religion in the middle ages
They are why we have most of our classical literature. I do wonder when they will get back to being the enlightened religion.

7. Funny You Should Say That
Because the guy who murdered those people converted to Christianity.
