A new crusade?
http://www.khaleejtimes.com/DisplayArticleNew.asp?xfile=data/opinion/2006/July/opinion_July87.xml§ion=opinion&col=

THE spreading war in Lebanon has bared the bizarre contradictions and self-destructive nature of America’s Mideast policy. Trying to placate the Arab world, the US sent a paltry $30 million worth of food and blankets to Lebanon for the 20 per cent of its population made refugees by US-encouraged bombing and ethnic cleansing by Israel.

With the other hand, it rushes planeloads of precision bombs to Israel, whose influential American supporters now totally dominate US Mideast policymaking. Among the bombs were GBU-28 bunker busters, one of which very likely destroyed a UN border observer post, killing four observers.

In Rome, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice blocked international efforts by Europe and Washington’s Arab allies to halt the war. Not since Colin Powell’s grotesque lies to the UN about Iraq has American diplomacy so debased itself. Small wonder hatred for America is surging across the Muslim World.

Rice also proclaimed the US was going to midwife the birth of a ‘new Mideast.’ This latest absurdity comes from the same arrogant know-nothings, religious fundamentalists, and extremist ideologues that fathered the Iraq debacle.

Far from building a new Middle East, the Bush administration has set the region ablaze. Watching the destruction of Lebanon, few can now doubt that the Bush White House and Congress have declared open war on the Muslim World.

1. hatred for America
is probably surging everywhere, including right here.

I'm so ashamed of my leaders, words fail.

do the cognitive throwbacks who support this tragedy realize what the consequences of their actions will be?

I really doubt it.

And unfortunately, those of us here on planet Earth who DO understand where this is all heading will have to pay the price along with everyone else. It's a Shakespearian end to the cosmic comic tragedy known as Human Civilization. :-(
