In preparation for being disappeared
Edited on Sun Jul-30-06 10:28 AM by Mythsaje
I, the undersigned, being of sound mind and body, do hereby put forth this, my last will and testament.

To my children I bequeath the royalties from my work, until they each reach the age of 21, after which they will receive a monthly stipend based upon 50% of the total accumulated up to this point, plus 50% of any current royalties.

To my children I also bequeath my intolerance and suspicion of a government grown into a monster that we cannot control.

I am not missing. I did not walk away from my life. I was taken. And I was probably not taken alive, for it is not in my nature to surrender to tyranny.

I bequeath to my children the natural rights we all share, regardless of the present government's view of these rights. I bequeath to them the inheritance of liberation given to us by our Founding Fathers, and those U.S. soldiers and others who have fought and died to preserve our freedoms from those who would have taken it away.

I bequeath to them the courage to stand up, but the wisdom to know when it will not serve them well.

I bequeath to them my hope for something better, for a world where all people are treated with dignity, and neither forced to work for their "betters" or conned into consuming all of the Earth's resources in the interest of those who have everything already but just want more.

I bequeath to them a thirst for freedom, and a belief in justice, and the will to see the world through the hard times ahead. And the wisdom to wait until the right moment to take whatever actions may be necessary.

I bequeath to them my belief in humanity--my faith that there is as much good within us as evil. And my hope that this goodness will win out in the end.

If I disappear, I ask you all to remember this and pass it along. For I have not simply disappeared. It was something that was done TO me, not something I have done of my own volition.

And to you all, I ask of you to remember one thing.

I never bowed my neck to tyranny. Surrender is not within me.

1. excellent
I only hope that when I go, I don't go out like a fraidy weenie.

I don't think anyone knows how they're going to go until it happens.

Here's to the idea of no surrender to tyranny!

3. Well said!
I wish I could think you were being paranoid. But I don't, not any more. Paranoia was a common currency in the 1968-74 era when I was a kid...but nothing then approached the dangers to the Republic we face now. Ever since December 12, 2000, the slide to despotism has been accelerating. I just hope that the American people become wolves, vigilant of their liberties, instead of sheep...but I'm not optimistic...

7. Beautiful but seriously
people need to not only write wills, but also state clearly that under no circumstances 'would they have committed suicide', so that it is there for the 'public record' when the war criminals are finally put on trial.

Of course, I could never put them into words so well.

May your words keep Them from putting any more of We the People into Gitmo.

11. I got a cold feeling when reading this, Mythsaje, because I know you're
not over-reacting. I think I'm ready to move to move to Vermont or Maine, as they are two of the four states that will not comply with the Patriot Act. Also, they're next door to Canada. I'm a single woman w/no children, so don't need to worry about leaving things. I don't like to "cut and run," but some days I'm too depressed to think of spending the rest of my life in what I've come to think of as "Unamerica." And yes, I do what I can working on voter verified voting, and keeping people up on stuff, but it seems like I'm on a sinking boat bailing water with a soup can.

... a depressingly long list of global woe. I like your "Unamerica" thought. The ongoing propaganda suggests that America is the greatest country on earth, anyone can become President, anyone can realize the "American Dream", so on and so forth. The reality is somewhat less inspiring.

15. From 'Spy' to Psychotic: The latest on the very strange story of ..
.. former Seattle journalist Susan Lindauer
By Rick Anderson
February 15, 2006

... An ex–Seattle Post-Intelligencer reporter and former U.S. Senate and House aide, Lindauer, 43, was charged in March 2004 with conspiring to act as a spy and being an unregistered Iraqi agent. U.S. prosecutors allege the antiwar activist accepted $10,000 from Hussein's intelligence unit over five years and sought to support resistance groups after the U.S. invasion of Iraq. She insisted her efforts—principally, to get economic sanctions lifted against Iraq—were misunderstood. She was not specifically charged with spying or espionage. The bigger question, however, was always her sanity. She had a history of mood swings and paranoid fears. People were watching her, she often said, although, as it turned out, federal agents indeed had set up surveillance and tapped her phone. Still, if she betrayed her country, did she do so knowingly? ...

"I got a call from her Feb. 4," says renter Fields. "They are talking about forcibly medicating her. She sees women around her, in Carswell, who can't hold their own silverware to eat because of medications, and she doesn't see how such treatments make anyone more fit for trial. Seems a lot like the way the Soviets used to treat dissidents." Lindauer told another friend she was being guarded like a terrorist at Carswell, and a relative of Lindauer who recently attempted to visit her was turned away, Fields says. He supports Lindauer but isn't convinced of either her guilt or innocence. "I wonder what she really did—what evidence there might be that I don't know about. But I sure would like to see due process observed." ...

Within 10 years, by 2004, she had allegedly become something of a spy, or, as the government nebulously defines it, worked in concert with others to "act" as one. If so, it was unconventional spycraft. She had disclosed her Iraqi connections directly to the White House through the letters to Card, she openly discussed some of her intentions with friends, and met in New York with Iraqi agents, presumably some of the more intensely surveilled operatives on U.S. soil. Her friend Fields suspects she saw herself more as diplomat than spy. "I admire her for having the courage of her convictions to try to put an end to the sanctions," he says. "Her philosophical approach was one that favored peaceful resolution, and was horrified at the consequences that were befalling poor Iraqi citizens. When she is calm, I find that she is pretty factual."

I will be disappeared for sure. in all seriousness, we should have some sort of system in place to check in on a regular basis... my editor might notice if go missing and sound the alarm, but how will we know if bloggers who use post under anon names go missing? someone should find a way to have everyone check in and to do so without revealing private information. if i had the time, i would actually do this. having lived in the Soviet Union, what is going on now is exactly what went on there and no reason to believe that we would not follow such a path to the darkest corners.

32. It's frightening, isn't it?
Now I understand how people in China must feel, knowing that upon the suspicion of even posessing a certain book they can be dragged off and shot...I never thought it would get that way here, but it has, and I fear for the people of America.

I don't fear for myself, though... I doubt that the government sees me as any sort of a threat, and I do not say that with pride.

on anyone's radar yet, though I do get scrutinized whenever I fly (I'm a 5'1 tattooed, young, white female). But, seeing as though I study Native American history, and my dissertation will be rather inflammatory towards the US government, I can imagine I'll be on there someday relatively soon.

I'm just not sure they care yet.

I'm a sci-fi writer. I'm ALLOWED a certain amount of anti-establishmentarianism. I cut my teeth on Heinlein for god's sake. And Herbert.

And I LOVE to shake the tree.

As Darwi Odrade said in Herbert's Heretics of Dune.... "Real boats rock."

I'll be the boat rocker.

Good on you for your dissertation. It's not as though we don't know the U.S. government (and the people too, unfortunately (except for a lot of the Celts, but that's another story) didn't act atrociously toward the Native population.

The reason the draft wasn't reinstated was to get there objectives done without much blow-back from the people, and remember we have a second amendment.

the only card up there sleeve now is installing the dlc in power, saving face, and jail terms for themselves.
