Picture of aborted fetus to be flown over Cleveland

As a shock tactic, a national group that opposes abortion plans to fly a billboard-size picture of an aborted fetus over Cleveland beginning Monday.

The Center for Bio-Ethical Reform, which frequently employs such attention-grabbing advertising, hopes to jar people into reconsidering their support of abortion, director Gregg Cunningham said.

He said the banner would be the most graphic picture ever displayed from the air.

"It will be categorically the most shocking we have ever done," he said. "The imagery is so horrifying that I can't almost stand to look at it."

Cunningham wouldn't describe the advertisement, which also displays a toll-free number to the organization. But he said the advertisement would compare an aborted fetus to a second graphic image related to the war in the Middle East.

I'll try. One year I bought a whole basket of plastic fetuses at a right-to-life booth at a local fair. (I think they were going for 10 cents a piece, so I didn't pay much). They asked me what I was going to do with them, and when I said "xmas tree ornaments" they turned green. I'm sure they contemplated tackling me down to "rescue" the plastic fetuses they had just dumped in a bag and handed over to me, but I beat a hasty retreat giggling at their horrified expressions.

And yes, they looked cute dangling upside down from an aluminum tree.

They drove around the square of out small south central PA town. One lady gave them a "thumbs down". Lunchers at a sidewalk cafe though they were over the top, and didn't sympathize. The paper said they plan to fly planes with the banners over us later. They got almost no publicity at all--amazing since this is the "bible belt"!
