People should make an effort to be civil to one another.
Last I checked, posting on DU is a privilege, not a right. The only reason for being rude would appear to me to be a desire to have a thread shut down or have the whole discussion relegated to the I/P forum. One of the reasons the I/P forum came into existence was the inability of some posters to recognize DU has limits to how much hostile rhetoric it can handle while still functioning as an online community. As Skinner used to like to point out, check out some of the I/P forums on Yahoo and see if that's really what you want the place to turn into.

2. It's unfortunate...
And it's doubly unfortunate that the rudeness requires that topics that have absolutely NOTHING to do with the conflict between Israel and Palestine, such as the Hizb'allah-Israel conflict, have to get shoved off into that forum just to throw some cold water on the heated debate. All you have to do is say the magic word "Israel" and even if they're simply building a Disney World in Tel Aviv, it ends up in I/P (where no pictures are allowed).

It's sad, really, that there's so much dancing, prancing, and sensitivity on the one hand, and so much rank anger and viciousness on the other.

3. Our gov't is the leader in incivility
They are giving training lessons to their right wing base and neocon followers in the art of arrogance and rudeness. It's infecting all aspects of our society and WILL NOT CEASE until these enemies of democracy are voted out of office. They have been perrenially rude and uneducated about history and we need Dem control and until then rudeness and crassness will prevail. It is their way. It shocks the system and is very effective. Civility requires thoughtful analysis of issues and respect for other opinions. It is easy for the "bully" neocons to make fun of the peacemakers. The crappy gov't we have has infected us all. We have been de-sentitized and mis-informed. There is a blood lust within our leaders which is changing who we are as a people. We no longer reflect the guiding principles of our Constitution...or...maybe we do...and are still salvageable. Time will tell.

5. Excuse me, I have my hand up
What do the initials I/P stand for? Okay, I'll guess "P" is for post, but what's the "I"??? And there is no I/P forum, right? It's just a metaphorical way of saying that a thread or comments have been purged from DU. Sometimes I need to have things spelled out for me--literally.
