CNN: Israel did similar Qana atrocity 10 years ago. Stinks of CALCULATION!
Edited on Sun Jul-30-06 03:26 PM by Sensitivity
Qana, one possible site for the Biblical Cana, has long been viewed as a city hated by Israel and visa versa.

The notorious "Qana shelling" took place 10 years ago, on April 18, 1996, and the IDF is very aware of its history.

Amid heavy fighting between the Israeli Defense Forces and Hezbollah during "Operation Grapes of Wrath", a UN compound in the village was shelled by Israeli artillery going after 800 Lebanese civilians who had taken refuge there to escape the fighting.

Reportedly, 106 were killed and around 116 others injured. Four UN soldiers were also seriously injured in an episode refered to by Human Rights Watch as "the Qana massacre."

Would not be surprise if the death count in Qana today matches the 106 killed 10 years ago.

Did't Israeli intelligence know that that specific building had been used as a civilian bunker since the shelling started? Hard to believe. They have drones in the area all the time.

It is clear to me that this is a deliberate. A message from Israel to the Lebanese that they are will to exterminate them all if necessary.

1. I doubt it was deliberate in the sense of wanting to kill civilians in
Qana again (specifically), but it certainly is deliberate in the sense that the war leaders of Israel consider all people in south lebanon as targets. One only has to listen to what they say themselves.

3. CNN military analysts dismisses suggestion that the building was not
deliberately targeted -- based on knowledge of Israeli process in use of
type of air-to-ground missile supposedly used.

2. Absolutely.
This has nothing to do with "collateral damage", but a deliberate punnishment of the Lebanese people for supporting Hezbollah.

As Olmert stated in his objective of 'setting Lebanon back 20 years' as a means of 'punishing' the Lebanese people for 'sheltering Hezbollah, the IDF is deliberately targetting civilians and especially the Lebanese civilian infrastructure. Every bomb that falls on Lebanon will increase the bitterness of the Lebanese people, and stengthen Hezbollah's hand at a time when the movement was begninning to lose popular support in its Lebanese strongholds.

This strategy has never worked in the past for Israel. Lest we forget, the IDF has twice invaded Southern Lebanon, firstly in 1978, and again (disastrously) in 1982, on neither occasion did it get anywhere near to achiving its objective of smashing either the PLO or Hezbollah- and it won't on this occasion, either.

What's that definition of insanity again? Something about repeating the same behavors and expecting different results.

4. IDF spokesperson statement is clearly a lie -- claims that target

was a nearby "rocket-launcer" site. Experts poo-poo this as a ridiculous statement given the nature of guided missile targetting and the fact the "rocket-launchers" do not require fixed cites since there are all very mobile.

5. This shouldn't be surprising
Israel has been known to routinely target civilians and innocents. This is nothing new.

7. Yep, the Israeli's knew exactly what they were doing.
This was outright murder of civilians. All the Israeli apologist hand waving won't change that fact.

Have you heard that 15 of the children were mentally or physically handicapped? I guess the fundies are sanctioning late term culling now.
