The world falls apart, the center cannot hold |
|
Is it just me, or does it really seem like everything has been coming apart at the seams since this time last year? Or, maybe since the tsunami in December of 2004. Or the re-non-election of *. But it's really getting tough to not want to hide under the covers every morning when I wake up and hear the news.
Or, do I just need to increase my anti-depressant dosage?

3. I like watching the TV shows |
|
on the science channel, National Geographic, etc. about the changing nature of the universe, and also the ones laying out all the various "end of the world" scenarios - megavolcanoes, giant tsunamis, crashing comets, things like that, because they make me realize that no matter how bad things are, it could alway get worse. I don't know why, but that somehow comforts me.

10. Boy, you are weird - but then so am I |
|
because I watch the same things and oddly derive a similar although different comfort. My comfort derives from acknowledging that the time of human existence on our planet is unknown and actually out of our control. It also makes me realize that although we think our powers are so strong, the inherent powers of the planet are stronger. It also makes me think of that phrase in Casablanca about the "the problems of three little people doesn't amount to a hill of beans in this crazy world" and I don't think it matters if you substitute 3 million or 3 billion. Nature is so impartial.

Yes, and at shocking speed. The capacity of human beings to commit horrific acts against each other is astounding.

7. I think Global Warming is the biggest problem |
|
Perhaps I am to pessimistic (and egoistic) but I find it more difficult nowadays to believe and invest in my own future. I realize that we should not give up. Not for ourselves and especially not for our children. But somehow things which used to important – especially work / career related - seem to become irrelevant, like my business. Sometimes I don’t care anymore. I am only worried about my parents and friends.
On the positive side: I live more on a day to day basis (now). I guess that is good thing. I appreciate and cherish every ‘good moment’.
The thing is: we will not be able to adapt our way of live fast enough to avoid the coming disaster. Higher temperatures will cause a chain of events which have their own dynamics. For example: because of higher temperatures more water will evaporate (especially from the oceans). This will increase the amount of water in our atmosphere. This water has the same effect as greenhouse gasses: it will increase the temperature…and more water will evaporate.
Global warming is a life threatening problem and people/governments don;t seem to take it serious. Sometimes I think that we, mankind, know it is unavoidable (on a subconscious level). Therefore the world lost its future and I think this contributes to the doomsday thinking (rapture), wars, panic, selfish behaviour of people and corporations and so on. The last days of our lives.
