Iran army told to prepare for war
Published: 31 July 2006

TEHRAN: The head of Iran's Revolutionary Guards called on his troops yesterday to "prepare themselves to get even" with Israel and the United States.

"Iran's powerful Revolutionary Guards and Basij should prepare themselves to get even with Zionists and Americans," General Yahya Rahim Safavi said.

"The supreme leader will announce the time for this," he said, referring to Iran's top cleric and commander-in-chief Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

"We have to keep this sacred hatred of the enemies of Islam alive in our hearts until the time of revenge comes," the general said.

"I hope our nation can one day avenge the blood of innocent people in Palestine, Lebanon, Iraq and Afghanistan," he said, adding: "I ask God to arouse the dignity of Muslims and destroy America, Israel and their associates."

Iran denied it was helping Hizbollah in its fight against Israel in Lebanon.

"We haven't deployed any forces there (Lebanon)," said Hamid Reza Asefi, spokesman of Iran's foreign ministry.

"If we choose to give them future military support, we will announce it. We have no fear of Mr Bush and company."

1. Dam I guess Hugo's visit was to prepare for war against us.
Are they really going to do it? Iran, come on, you can't possibly think Americans want WWIII. We watch the same stupid Internet videos and read the same blogs! See, if you do this then America will be more than happy to oblige...shit we have people here just READY for the Rapture! Please, let's not do this.

14. I agree
I think it would be a real bad move to attack Iraq/USA. The US will suffer for it, but Bushco will gladly flatten them.

3. Who can stop them?
What if they did want to roll right through to the Syrian border? Our troops in Iraq are thin and spread out. Nukes would probably be employed.

And we can thank George W. Bush, Antonin Scalia et al for this if it occurs.

17. Could this really be a plan?
Iran attacks and we commit more troops to that theater and there is Chavez sitting with an unprotected border. Sounds like a Clancy novel. oh well.

THE head of Iran's Revolutionary Guards called on his troops today to "prepare themselves to get even" with Israel and the US, the semi-official Fars news agency reported.
"Iran's powerful Revolutionary Guards and Basij should prepare themselves to get even with Zionists and Americans," General Yahya Rahim Safavi was quoted as saying.

"The supreme leader will announce the time for this," he said, referring to Iran's top cleric and commander-in-chief, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

It was not clear if the comments represented the latest shot in what Iranian officials describe as an ongoing "psychological war" with Israel and the United States, or the public revelation of an actual order for Iranian troops to mobilise for war.

"We have to keep this sacred hatred of the enemies of Islam alive in our hearts until the time of revenge comes," the general was quoted as saying.

"I hope our nation can one day avenge the blood of innocent people in Palestine, Lebanon, Iraq and Afghanistan," he said, adding: "I ask God to arouse the dignity of Muslims and destroy America, Israel and their associates".

11. Sounds more like an unhinged sermon to me
I'd feel safer if the senior generals in Iran didn't seem to desire another world war, based on religious hatred.

21. This article in a Saudi newspaper
lists what Iran plans to in the event of an attack on their nuclear facility.
This reads like Iran is expecting an attack on Natanz and will then put their retaliatory plans into effect.

15. I said it a couple weeks ago.
People are into this war mindset. They forgot how much they liked it, so everyone's going to pile in.

13. Which, in turn, gives the bushistas the excuse they've been looking for
Lots of fancy new weapons to test against military targets and occupied civilian populations. Lots of contracts for Haliburton and Bechtel. War + death + pestilence + famine = big money for someone.
