Do Americans really care about women and children being killed ? |
|
Not just in Lebanon, but in Iraq and Afghanistan as well.
Living in So. California, I get a wide view from the perspective of people from around the globe--including Israel, and none of what I hear squares with the positions (I guess you can call it that )our government has taken or the role it plays in these atrocities.
I'm wondering what people in other parts of the country,-- where there may not be such a diverse population -- are thinking or saying. Do people really close their eyes to this slaughter and criminal behavior in our names and say nothing. Or do they think like the vast majority of people around here ?
just wondering......

1. People are completely oblivious. What war in Afghanistan? |
|
The Iraq war, as best as I can tell, has been cancelled for low ratings.

Women and children die right here in the US every day and people don't care. And don't give me the crap about "if they're white and blonde"...people don't care about them either...they just enjoy the titilation.

16. I think this is a very important point... |
|
Americans only care about those that the corporate media tells them to care for. A large percentage of the American populace has their entire sense of reality structured by a marketing. This is the curse of the so called "free-market".

6. I don't think the question should be whether or not people care. |
|
The question has to be whether or not we're going to do something about it. If we're not going to do anything, caring doesn't count for much.

10. In Minnesota, particularly in the Twin Cities where we have the most |
|
ethnically diverse population, the most immigrants and the most liberal citizens, we've had numerous protests against all the wars. Recently the protests have been against Israel's attacks against Lebanaon and Gaza. There is growing participation in the protests but there is still much silence.
And of course we have many Democrats, including our candidate to replace Mark Dayton, speaking out boldly for Israel's right to defend itself. Democrats here by and large side with Israel and will not hear or represent the Left's call for diplomacy, it seems.
But I wonder why the entire country isn't asking where defense ends and aggression begins. Most of the country closes a blind eye if Israel is involved in fighting, failing to accept that others have suffered and are suffering now.

13. No. They didn't really care when our own were being killed during Katrina. |
|
Why would they give a damn about the people being killed thousands of miles away? Some people do obviously but I'm convinced the majority couldn't care less.

14. Most Americans seem not to know what is going on. |
|
Mentioning even the biggest news stories often draws a blank stare. Many of us know and care much more about sports and TV shows and stars than anything going on in the real world. I'm sorry to say, it appears that we deserve whatever happens to us as a result of this.

17. In a small degree of fairness, much of our news is censored. |
|
If the true images of war and poverty were shown,I do believe people would care.many people-at least where i live- WERE outraged at Katrina...and these are conservative people...however,of course, when the news sources are reeled in,they have no choice but to tend to their day-to-day lives. We are unique in our desire to seek out the true story.

but that might be changing. Israel is not that important to most people, they shouldn't have any trouble condemning them but looking at what we have done in Iraq is still very distant.
