Still in the box...
HOPE!

Our leaders may be maniacs and fools.

Our planet may be suffering from our neglect and abuse.

Our children may be inheriting troubles we never foresaw.

Our country may be teetering on the edge of destruction.

Our countrymen (and women) may be awaiting a "Rapture" that shall never come.

Our neighbors may look upon us with fear and contempt.

Our lives may be dedicated to feeding the beast.

But the one thing that never escaped Pandora's Box is still inside...we cannot ever give up hope. Even with global warming, and the devestation our talents have wrought, there are, even now, things we are learning that can possibly fix what has been broken.

We just have to take them away from those who would abuse them.

I will not despair. Despair is useless, and will not help us.

1. A little Jefferson for you:
"A little patience, and we shall see the reign of witches pass over, their spells dissolve, and the people, recovering their true sight, restore their government to its true principles. It is true that in the meantime we are suffering deeply in spirit, and incurring the horrors of a war and long oppressions of enormous public debt. If the game runs sometimes against us at home we must have patience till luck turns, and then we shall have an opportunity of winning back the principles we have lost, for this is a game where principles are at stake."

Thomas Jefferson to John Taylor following the passage of the Alien and Sedition Acts in 1798

6. A bit encouraging, but
I would like more reassurance that my vote is being counted. Then my waiting can be endured.

2. There is no hope left in my box
Bush destroyed my hope when he destroyed the economy just as my business was breaking even. I lost it all. I haven't the money or the energy to restart, and the economy is as bad or worse as when I threw in the towel. I truly did not think the people who make decisions would decide to destroy everything in the world, including the country that bore them. I did not think any nation would voluntarily elect a Nero.

3. You can fool some of the people all of the time
all of the people some of the time.

Bush and his cronies merely proved this adage.

4. You're still alive. You're not alone. Although things are bad history is
on our side. Over the centuries others have struggled on through much worse and eventually have beaten back far worse tyranny then we have now. As bad as the economy is now talk to people who survived "the great Depression" and "Dust Bowl" of the 1930's. Do you think our fore-mothers and fathers who lived during the time before our Independence had it easy? Go back in time to what is called by Pagans "the burning times"... or how about the Salem Witch trails? (There are more examples of course but I know you're a smart lady and get my point. :) )

If you're weary I can understand that, I'm weary too and very afraid for the future...... BUT... I'm also VERY ANGRY and, although I may rest occasionally, while there is a breath in my body I am NOT going to give up hope and quit.

I am fighting for my loved ones, for the country I love, for those who are too too blind to see the danger to our Constitution and Freedom and yes, I fight for my own survival... I'm not quite that selfless. I have 2 adult daughters... one has a 4 month old daughter and another has a daughter on the way... I want them all to have a future where there is good health, laughter, joy, love, peace, prosperity, freedom and choice. The only way they and we will have a future is if we hold on tight to that fragile winged butterfly we call "hope" and keep going... keep fighting even if all we can do is fight with words from our keyboards.

Please try to hold on to the hope and knowledge that in time... we WILL persevere and you are NOT alone.
When I despair, I remember that all through history the way of truth and love has always won. There have been tyrants and murderers and for a time they seem invincible but in the end, they always fall -- think of it, ALWAYS.

8. Thank you but I said what I said in the hopes that it may have helped and
because, oddly enough perhaps, I truly care and you seemed a bit downhearted.... not to earn my moniker. :D (I "earned" that long ago although these past few years the Fates seem determined to "help" me continue to "earn" it almost every day. ;))

hold on tight to HOPE and keep fighting... to do anything less means the neo-fundie/CONs have won.

In Googling "hope over despair" I ran across this wonderful quote by John Edwards I thought may be appropriate.
What Democrats stand for -
(Remarks at 100 Club Dinner in NH on February 5, 2005)
We believe in hope over despair, possibilities over problems, optimism over cynicism. We believe in doing what is right even when others say it can't be done. And we believe in fighting desperately for people who don't have a voice. That's what the Democratic Party has always believed in and that's what we will always believe in. That's what you and I believe in.

As always I enjoy reading your thoughts. Thanks for posting them. B-)
