Picture of aborted fetus to be flown over Cleveland
Picture of aborted fetus to be flown over Cleveland
Sunday, July 30, 2006
Mark Naymik
Plain Dealer Politics Writer

As a shock tactic, a national group that opposes abortion plans to fly a billboard-size picture of an aborted fetus over Cleveland beginning Monday.

The Center for Bio-Ethical Reform, which frequently employs such attention-grabbing advertising, hopes to jar people into reconsidering their support of abortion, director Gregg Cunningham said.

He said the banner would be the most graphic picture ever displayed from the air.

"It will be categorically the most shocking we have ever done," he said. "The imagery is so horrifying that I can't almost stand to look at it."

"It will be categorically the most shocking we have ever done."

It's almost like they're bragging and boasting about it. That's it's some kind of Howard Stern-like publicity stunt to them. Sick bastards.

13. What are the limits of indecent exposure?
Seems to me that presenting body parts would be indecent.

A group did this outside a local mall during the peak of holiday shopping last winter. It felt very wrong to me to expose children to that.

But then I don't expect them to be particualarly sensitive. Some members of these groups are known to get a warm feeling from symbolically drinking blood after dragging children with them into a building to look at the image of a 30 something semite slowly dying a tortuous death with a stab wound in his side.

18. They should have one of those home run derby or fan participation contests
Have the pilot buzz the outfield and the participants have to hit the flying fetus from home plate.

Winner gets a brand spanking new H2 Hummer or season tickets for a year.

26. These billboards were a dud in Chambersburg, PA.
Mobile billboards carry anti-abortion message
By NICK KENNEDY Staff writer

A fleet of box trucks covered with the graphic, blood-red photographs of aborted fetuses is scheduled to descend on downtown Chambersburg.

Representatives of the Center for Bio-Ethical Reform, a Los Angeles-based, anti-violence, pro-life group, said they plan to drive their trucks into Memorial Square in downtown Chambersburg from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday.

The trucks feature high-resolution images of aborted first-trimester fetuses next to the word "choice." The group's Reproductive "Choice" truck and airplane campaign is targeting towns across Pennsylvania and other battleground states in an attempt to bolster pre-election support for the anti-abortion movement.

And on Thursday...
Controversial display: Anti-abortion trucks receive little reaction
By Nick Kennedy Staff writer

Saying no: Chambersburg Borough Council member Sharon Bigler gives her opinion of an AbortionNO.org truck displaying aborted fetuses driving through Chambersburg Memorial Square Wednesday. The woman was giving a "thumbs down" to the trucks.(Public Opinion/Vicky Taylor)

CHAMBERSBURG -- Few people seemed to notice, or even care, that box trucks displaying graphic pictures of aborted fetuses drove through downtown Chambersburg Wednesday.

Representatives from the Center for Bio-Ethical Reform, a Los Angeles-based, anti-violence, pro-life group, planned to use their trucks to "humanize abortion" and gain pre-election support for the anti-abortion movement.

The trucks, which featured high-resolution images of aborted first-trimester fetuses next to the word "choice," arrived more than an hour after their planned arrival time of 11 a.m. Instead of the multi-truck convoy that appears on the group's Web site, fewer than five different trucks made individual passes through Memorial Square.

But a handful of people around downtown during the lunch hour got the message.

Among them were a group of four female co-workers who, after reading about the event in the newspaper, came to see the trucks. The women sat at a table in front of Baker's Loaf on North Main Street, eating lunch and discussing the passing trucks.

"I was offended," Kim Shank said. "I came to see the reaction. It's just fanatical. It's too in your face "

Mark Harrington, executive director of CBR Midwest, said the group plans to visit nearly 100 cities in Pennsylvania before early November. He said CBR trucks will be in Gettysburg today and planes carrying larger images are expected to fly over Chambersburg "over the next two to three weeks."

27. They think that Americans will be so shocked and horrified that they will
join up with the anti-choice crowd.

Yet this probably will just make those who actually anti-choice less likely to be honest about it because they would be branded insane like these guys.

Most adults can imagine what happens during an abortion, seeing the end result does nothing to change a person's mind and may in fact make them think "I know abortion is wrong but so is this. At lease those pro-choice people never show such horrific images to my children."
