I need a cool poster and/or quote for my classroom.
5th grade. Not too overtly political, but still gets a good message across.

It's an urban school, and we're doing American History & ecosystems this year, just to give you the jist of things...

Or to make this less of a lounge topic- What would you show a child that would help them make sense of the world today, or inspire them make it a better place?

6. Geography defines history...
Study the geography, the countries, the rivers, the natural resources and then you can study the history.

17. Jefferson:
"I have sworn upon the altar of God eternal hostility against every from of tyranny over the mind of man." -Thomas Jefferson

This is information fundamental to a budding thinker. This will be needed in thier lifetime, and when they ask about God give them this one:

"Question with boldness even the existence of a god; because if there be one he must approve of the homage of reason more than that of blindfolded fear." - Thomas Jefferson, Letter to Peter Carr, August 10, 1787

-Or-

"Believing with you that religion is a matter which lies solely between man and his God, that he owes account to none other for his faith or his worship, that the legislative powers of government reach actions only, and not opinions, I contemplate with sovereign reverence that act of the whole American people which declared that their legislature should 'make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof,' thus building a wall of separation between church and State."

-Thomas Jefferson, letter to Danbury Baptist Association, CT., Jan. 1, 1802

20. My personal favorite: Poster - "It's All About Character"
"It's All About Character"

Watch your thoughts
they become words
Watch your words
they become actions
Watch your actions
they become habits
Watch your habits
they become character
Watch your character
it becomes your destiny

You can find this poster online. I have it in print
on my fridge, for my kids to see daily. :)
