Why Johnny Refuses to Attend College...according to Phyllis Schlafly

snip

This week, Schlafly managed to push the envelope a little further with a column, run by Townhall.com, with her explanation for declining male enrollment rates in American colleges. You won't believe her conclusion.

The lack of college sports teams and camaraderie makes many high school boys wonder, "Why bother going to college?" <…>

The Rose Bowl proved that public demand is for all-male sports, not female contests. Boys do not want to go to a college that eliminates the macho sports, and that is true even if the boy does not expect to compete himself.

The effects of the feminists' attack on men's sports are now coming home to roost. By the time this year's college freshmen are seniors, the ratio will be 60 percent women to 40 percent men, and women are now crying that there are not enough college-educated men to marry.

The "argument," if you can call it that, goes as follows: feminists hate male-dominated sports like football and wrestling, which leads colleges to drop the athletic programs, which leads young men to avoid college, which hurts families because women have more trouble finding a husband.

((evidently, Ms Schlafly wants Congress to do something about this earth-shattering problem....she wants Congress to deny funds to colleges who discriminate against men's sports.....arggggghhh!))

3. Huh?
I didn't notice a lack of interest in college football, and now basketball and soon, baseball.

If Johnny stays out of college because women play sports, we don't need to waste the classroom space on him.

4. funny, as a male, I picked my college based on the education
not the sports teams. Here, according to http://collegeapps.about.com/od/rankings/a/u_mf_2.htm, are the top ten schools with the highest male-female ratio:

Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute - 75/25
Clarkson University - 75/25
Georgia Tech - 72/28
Florida Institute of Technology - 70/30
Rochester Institute of Technology - 69/31
Cal Tech - 67/33
Carnegie Mellon University - 61/39
Lehigh University - 60/40
Drexel University - 60/40
Case Western Reserve University - 60/40

wow, some athletic powerhouses there, huh? cross out the Ramblin' wreck, and you have what?

and here are the bottom ten:

Clark University - 39/61
University of South Dakota - 39/61
City University of New York / Queens College - 37/63
University of South Florida - 37/63
Loyola University - 34/66
New School University - 34/66
Howard University - 34/66
City University of New York / Hunter - 30/70
Sweet Briar University - 3/97
Adelphi University - 28/72
Hollins University - 0/100

I don't see much of a correlation between male dominated sports, do you?

5. Phyllis Laughly's ultimate conclusion
Edited on Wed Jan-18-06 06:28 PM by Zambero
is that women's athletics is no more than "social engineering" and is ruining our culture. Never mind that the dots she's connecting are light years away from one another. Yes, Johnny doesn't want to go to college because his fragile male sensitivity is hurt by the mere thought of a competitive female, in terms of athletic competition, and oh yes, professional career advancement as well. Poor Johnny will spend his wretched life digging ditches and delivering pizza because some gifted woman decided to pursue an education, thereby killing any ambition he might have had. Boo-Hoo!

17. If that's the case
Then Phyllis should not watch the upcoming Olympics in Torino. My god, there'll be women competing in all kinds of sports.

7. you moron. The reason that more women attend school is because they can
It is as simple as that.
And as complex.

And of course, the simplest answer scares the effing dickens out of Phil.lis.

14. And because without a degree they stand no chance of good
jobs. And it is debatable if a BS or BA is even enough. I guess old Phyllis still thinks women should depend on men to take care of them. Of course you can be married to a guy for 40 years and he still may dump you, leaving you with no visible means of support and, if you haven't had a job, basically screwed.
Of course I went to college because I wanted to and because I am ambitious but not haveing to depend on another person for a living was a consideration.

9. Did I drink my lunch?
I could have sworn that Phyllis Schafly, whose relevance in American society peaked in around 1979 or so, believes that men aren't going to college based on the "fact" that there aren't enough male-dominated sports.

>The lack of college sports teams and camaraderie makes many high school boys wonder, "Why bother going to college?"<

Of course, this has nothing to do with the spiraling costs of tuition, the jobless rate for those with advanced degrees, BLA BLA BLA.

Phyllis: Sit down and shut up, or I'll have to drink my dinner, too.

13. I never understood girls who went to school to get an M.R.S. degree
They were usually the ones bitching about my being there because I got a "minority" scholarship.

Like THEY were really using their college education in a useful way....here I am, the first in my family to go to college, trying to get through school so I can support myself in the real world....

and they're worried about not being married by the week after graduation.

16. Feminists don't like Football?
Why didn't I get the memo about that topic. It's obvious that this bitch never met me. I happen to like football and baseball. Frankly, instead of Phyllis Schlafly demeaning feminists, she shoul just say "Thank You Very Much." If it weren't for feminists, Phyllis would have never been able to get into law school after 25 yrs of marriage.
